Yes I know, it is not to everyone's taste and inclination to restore sets like these. I might offend purists. I just wanted to get it into a normal state where the set is about the design and not about its history, (I am not a collector) but I did make an effort to allow its age to show in other ways.

Great work, utpic. You're really good at this.

Thanks UpcountryRain, am slowly learning the tricks of the trade, pity it wasn't a bit earlier before I started! BTW did you see those "pock marks" on the knight's head? Maybe that was that particular turner's trademark? Who knows.
I LOVE the look of that set! I have the C.B. version and it is nice, but when they replaced a slightly cracked Knight the replacement was wider and had a thicker snout.Unfortunately I did not notice this until it was too late to get another, but overall C.B. has done a nice job and the set is really nice.
I am now sitting and looking at a box that came just today. It's the 1961 Tal set in red stain from NOJ.
I have no doubt I will love it upon opening and doubt there will be any issues at all. After ordering this set,it arrived within 2 days.
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents. All you folks have nice stuff,so enjoy them as well as such a fantastic game.-

Looking forward to seeing some photos
I think I might have left them unrestored, but you look to have done a very good job.
