Hi guys, just wanted to ask what was the best software for me to get at this current time to help vastly improve my chess game, ive started getting back into it again and would love to improve my ratings, is fritz 14 worth 29 pounds?

Now that Chessmaster is no longer available I think the top three commercial candidates would be HIARCS chess, ChessKing and Fritz.  Each has it's strengths so it kind of depends on what you're looking for.  If you want a whole bunch of training exercises and don't mind an occasionally clunky interface, then ChessKing.  If you want an easy to search database and pretty intuitive interface, then HIARCS.  If you don't mind a beastly program to learn but which has a lot of power, then Fritz.  I couldn't make up my mind so I have all three. EmbarassedLaughing

I use ChessKing for it's training exercises and sometimes the DB.  I use HIARCS to play against because you can choose any of 200 openings and also to watch master games.  I use Fritz to analyze.  Or you could be adventurous and download something free like Lucas Chess or put together a free GUI and a free engine.  Lots of choices.  You probably want to do a little research.

Not sure what you'd need or want that Lucas Chess doesn't do, frankly.  Tons of training exercises, tactics, computer opponents to play in rated matches with help available, all kinds of engine analysis features.
