You apparently are on this forum for one of your first times.

Please note that the title of this forum is "Chess Books & Equipment."  So this means you will find discussion and pictures of Chess Equipment.  After all this is the intention of this forum.

You will also note that the title of this topic talks about the current playing set-up of individuals.  That means you will see pictures of chess pieces and boards that people are currently using.

Now, if you want to complain, do it in another forum.

If you don't want to see pictures of chess equipment then quit coming to this forum.

cgrau - thanks for your interest!  The table top actually flips over where one side is dark brown wood and looks like the rest of the table, and the other side has the black leather, which is glued on.

Another option is my craft-minded wife could trace the outer edge of the board with gold paint, and leave the individual squares as they are.

cgrau: I'm a player of ascetic chess tastes. You are doing everything wrong:

* using a luxurious set for real games
* Dubrovnik pieces
* Red pieces
* Black-and-white board

But I've got to say, that's a beautiful rig and thanks for posting!

cgrau: The next time I come up to spend a week with my friends in Troy, I'll have to come over your way one day for chess and beer!

Robert, it would be a privilege and an honor! The light is always on...

LOL. You're very welcome.

wow - thank you for that suggestion!  We will give that a try!

And you think ebony would be the right color for dark... not a rosewood.  I understand that some contrast between pieces and squares would help if we were playing several games in a row, but I would probably only be playing two games in a row on it.  I could buy a green and white board if it went longer than that.

While I think that a very traditional Jaques-style ebony and antiqued boxwood set would look great, I'd be very interested in seeing how a rosewood set would look on it for the contrast. But as you might gather, I have a weakness for reddish pieces. Getting back to the board, I would not do anything to compromise the integrity of the original. I would seek counsel from Alan Dewey, the master restorer, who often posts here, especially when the topic is Jaques sets. And no one is better at Do-It-Yourself projects than the host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Izmet Fekali, who also frequently contributes considerable wisdom and wit to this forum. Alan! Izmet! I know you're out there! What guidance can you offer our friend?

LOL. It's a Negroni... I was about to play a game w/ my 8 year old son, and so I could afford a little buzz to even things out :)

Bronco

That sounds fair and enjoyable :)

Where's the coaster under that drink? It horrifies me to see a cold drink on a wood table without a coaster.

I think the shelves are sagging under the weight.
