My Heirloom Chess Set!

Wow. What an incredible setup. Plenty of time for kids. They'll ding up the board and pieces in no time. Hah! Who made the boxes?
Can't complain about Android. At least the pics are showing! On the iPhone with chess.com's latest App update (Version 4.1.9), the images don't even show when reading the forum.

Well the board and board case was made by a Canadian woodworker, and the pieces case was made by a American woodworker. I will link you to their stores on Etsy.

Holy Smokes!!!! I remember when you were posting about ordering this set and the woods you were getting it in. I thought it was going to look really good but it looks even more amazing than I had imagined. Congratulations.

Thanks. Now that I have both a gorgeous luxurious heirloom chess set to pass down my family and a luxurious chess computer to play against online players, I am fullfilled. I already have my ideal chess sets now. Already have a working DGT chess clock and a plastic tournament set for tournament use as well. I don't think I will ever be buying another chess equipment, haveing spent like over 3k USD on chess stuff already.
Absolutely fantastic set, board and box. You're a lucky man!
I hope you get many years of pleasure from owning such a treasure.

I know it's just my personal taste but with that setup I think a regular DGT North America or DGT 3000 wouldn't compliment that setup as much as a Garde or even a DGT 3000 wood grain.
DGT 3000 plastic wood pattern.

Yep. My current digital DGT chess clock doesn't match the chess set at all. I think for a best match of a clock for this chess set would probably be a wooden chess clock but I don't really want a non digital clock tho because I want more functionality as those clocks don't have increments. And I would rather spend more on a steel or wooden chess clock that matches with it than buy another plastic one even tho it might have a wood pattern to it. Therefore I don't really have plans to buy any more chess clocks currently. Although if I find a VTEK300 limited edition Burl Pattern chess clock being sold or something similar, then I would most likely buy it if the price is just right.

Thanks. Although, I would say luck has less to do with it than hard work and dedication that allowed me to save up enough to have it constructed. Well, I am sure you can probably get your dream set custom made as well. 👍

Beautiful! An heirloom for sure but also brilliantly playable … and unique! Wonderful and thank for showing us all!
I noted a similar comment in a different thread but truly - this is class! It will never go out of style and in years to come, your family and whoever it is passed down to will look on with pure admiration. Great stuff.

Thanks. Although to be honest, I find myself haveing it more as a decorative piece that's eye candy to look at than actually playing with it since I don't have anyone in the family strong enough to compete with me in chess so I find it boring playing with my younger brother. So, I just end up using my electronic certabo chess board to the left more often in comparison, against online players. However, I recently haven't had the time with work and studying. I don't know if that's the same case with others here being too busy to play hour long games but I been planning on starting my own LLC company and it has just been makeing me busy for the last 2months to be able to play chess. But still somehow enjoying reading books on it, something that I didn't think I would have found myself attracted to in the past. I guess it's not that people are against reading or academics but rather just don't find themselves attracted to things that they are forced to learn at schools vs things they actually want to learn.

You know that saying "a room with out books has no soul" / "well I say a room without a chess set + has no life " + you need some nice house plants too

I don't see any pictures on Android
Try it on a browser and not the app then. Chess.com apps are just meh 😑.

Ok. You were right. DGT plastic ones didn't suit it at all. I dislike analogs but decided to make it match buy 2 analog clocks. I brought a brand new INSA clock on it's way and also this used wooden Rolland clock. Do you think it matches with my chess set more now?
It's finally finished. The pieces are the House of Staunton Avant Garde Series chessmen made from Tulipwood and Burmese Blackwood. The pieces storage case I had custom made from Cherry and Aromatic Cedar wood. The chessboard, I had custom made from Olivewood and Ziricote 2.25 inch squares with a thin Black Limba border. The board case is made from Baltic Birchwooden top and bottom with Maple wooden sides and a lil bit of walnut on the sides to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Overall pleased with it. Don't have no kids yet, but I am sure my future kids will love it.
