Hello everyone, Here are my new 4 inch chess pieces that i bought from Chessbazaar. Generaly speaking, I am very satisfied with the way pieces are carved, except for maybe knights and to a certain degree bishops, but for the price paid it is really not a big deal. Here are a few pictures so you can see for yourself. nullnull

From your pictures the set looks fine, what in particular are you dissatisfied with on the knights and the bishops? Are there tooling marks that aren't visible from your photos or it is something else that is not to your liking? I have a fierce knight set but it's from the Chess Store here in the States and it's a pretty nice club set.

They are just not that appealing to me, I guess. Here are some more photos so people can judge for themselves. And I wish the pawns were a bit slimer, but that is also personal preference. There is nothnig wrong with them.

The only real objection I have is the one regarding the black rooks. There is some sort of glue residue on the top of the rooks which  you can clearly see on one of the photos I posted. This is not the case with white rooks.

still a great looking set

The knight's snout seems to be shortened in relation to the mouth and teeth. Chess Bazaar had this same design flaw with a 1940's Soviet antiqued set that they just released earlier this year and made some adjustments so the set looks much better now. They should apply the same adjustment principles to this knight as well. As for the residue perhaps you can apply some wax such as Renaissance wax and buff out the inner area of the battlements of the rook with a paper towel. I had this residue problem with one of my other wood sets and it worked well, I used Renaissance wax which can be obtained on this link through amazon.com:

The remaining pieces look fine to me I don't quite see where the bishops have any flaws. When I purchased my Chess Store fierce knight set I had an issue with the bishops the set had come with (too slim in profile) and contacted Chess bazaar to see if I could purchase 4 replacement bishops for a Staunton set that had some damaged bishops but were wider in the bishop's hat and had a more profound miter cut in the hat. I fixed the damaged pieces of the CB Staunton set and swapped them as replacements for the fierce knight set. Now the fierce knight set looks much more intimidating on both sides of the board and I'm quite content with the results. Here are some closeup photos of the chess store fierce knight and the pieces from the repaired CB Staunton set I fixed and replaced the Fierce knight's bishops with. As you can see they are a tad smaller but beefier and much more pleasing to the eye IMHO.

The residue is visible only if I'm looking at the rooks from above, while I'm standing, so it's not really an issue for me as I usually sit most of the time when I'm using my pieces. Nevertheless, this is something chessbazaar shouldn't let happened. Other than that, it's a nice chess set. It cost me 60 bucks or so so I guess I can't complain. :)

They cost 100$ , how did you get it for 60$

Also are they weighted? Good for blitz?

Regular price is more than 100 dollars. Chessbazaar has always some of their products on sale so I guess I bought them at the right time. The pieces are weighted so it is possible to play blitz chess. I use them only for analysis, though.
