So buy whatever set makes you happy. Is there a purpose behind repeating your opinion 100x in this thread? We get it.
My New Ultimate Chess Pieces are Yellow
Actually the natural (wood) color is more popular than the ivory color for the white plastic pieces.

best to completely ignore Stauntonmaster....he/she/it is an idiot....the sooner you stop responding to it, the sooner it is likely to go away.....i.e., pretend it doesn't exist...
Well, you appear to be right. My trying to dispute, with facts, what he says is going unheeded by him. He just seems to go on and write as if no one else has written anything at all.

Trying to reason with someone for whom reason is unimportant is a waste of energy...and only has the effect of encouraging and perpetuating the nonsense...

Neutral color that absorbs light is best for plastic chess. Glossy abd shining chess dazzle the eyes and become annoying after a while. Yellow color is not suitable for chess sets.
Finally, Stauntonmaster has written one single thing that has some truth to it, even though his statement is still wrong.
The finish of a set, whether it be plastic, wood or any other material is better if it is not shiny. The neutral colors do not have anything to do with the finish having a shine or not.
And of course his statement regarding the color, Yellow, is ridiculous.

They should call it urine yellow. I gave my set to a school. I really love those chess pieces but I can’t get past that piss yellow color. I would love to be able to buy this in Ivory. Hopefully, very soon a normal cream or ivory color will be available.
Problem with seeing a different color very soon is the minimum order quantities are horrendous. I am guessing the quantity was 2K. It is what it is and one day we will see a cream or white color.

I live in Canada. I was very happy to purchase the "Conqueror" plastic chess pieces from Regency, which has a shop in Canada as well as one in the UK. It was a quality plastic chess set in a style I liked.
I looked around, and among the three major Canadian chess stores online that I know of, one doesn't even sell plastic pieces, and none of them carry the "Ultimate" design.
However, I visited the ChessBazaar web site. And one of their current clearance items was a wooden chess set in a style that resembled the "Ultimate" pieces. They claim to pay duty and shipping on international orders.
So, yes, there are better choices at least for the next person.

The old red and yellow bakelite sets were kind of bright as well. Especially the red.
Anyways here is my Ultimate Chess Pieces set on an Olive Green mousepad board. I think that board color and lighting does make a difference.
I got the mousepad board from chesshouse.com They call theirs Flex Pad. I believe Olive Green is one of the best color of board for Ultimate Chess Pieces v2.0
I bought 3 of the ultimate chess sets last year. Two directly from Shelby, and one from Amazon.
I still own my original ultimate set from the mid 2000s. I as many others, still vastly prefer the original cream color. But I was really excited to get the new version. When the first 2 arrived, I was quite disappointed in the color. After researching what happened with Shelby’s original intent, I still went ahead and purchased a third one. I just wanted to support Shelby’s endeavor, because the man seems like a very passionate chess enthusiast himself. If and when he is able to produce a new batch with a better cream - off/white color, I will gladly gift my 3 current sets to a local school’s chess club, and immediately buy 3 of the new ones from Shelby. I will soon buy one of his v-tech clocks as well, but that will probably be sometime next month. I believe we all have the right to complain about things we don’t like. However, with the chess world being as small as it is, we the users need to support the few people still fighting the good fight to bring good chess equipment to us.
I commend the original poster for deciding to keep the set.

KnightForkCafe,
You should see my new Bobby Fischer Mousepad selection. Since you already have the Ultimate, I am sure I can arrange a deal for you. The Green is by far the most popular, but the Slate Grey and the Burgundy are nice too.Use the code "Bobby Fischer" and get 20% off a purchase of this board. It is already at the same price as when they were sold retail. The bidders know it's a collectible now. Good luck to the lucky winner of the butter Ultimate chess set!
Problem with sharp and bright colors like yellow is they dazzle the eyes during play. Neutral colors are better for playing chess.
While the above statement is true, it is not true for the Ultimate set that is the topic of this thread.
This new Ultimate set does have the white pieces with more yellow that many other sets. However, I have seen wood sets with the white pieces just as or even more yellow.
Also, I have played games with this new set, and the particular color of the pieces of this set DO NOT dazzle the eyes at any time, let alone during play.
I wish that this Stauntonmaster would not spout off such statements and condemnations without actually owning or at least personally using the particular product(s) he so much enjoys to deride.
