My Twisty Puzzle Chess Set Project

Me
My main interest in life is Rubik's Cube type puzzles and I have held world records in the past for making both the largest and smallest. My interest in chess is limited but I love the designs and since the last century wanted to make a chess set where each piece could be mixed up and solved like a Rubik's Cube. Puzzle chess sets already exist but none have a Rubik's Cube style movement.

The Method
The method is shown over a series of 9 construction videos and will be added to accordingly. I should warn people that the chess set lacks any kind of professional quality and is more about the pieces being usable puzzles. The first video is an introduction to the project and covers the making of the first pawn. Each pawn (of one colour, so 8) BTW has a slightly different mechanical design which affects how they are solved.

Wow! that's really cool man! I've watched  your videos and, as a rubik's cube lover, I enjoyed them a lot. This project involve two of my hobbies in one , I love the initiative.

Second video covers the rest of the pawns.

Saving the Knight for last? Eagerly waiting to see the progress. Thanks for taking the time to make videos and posting!

Yes I made the knight last. I knew that they would be the hardest and really had no idea how to make them. Having made all the other pieces first I was really left with no choice but to find a way. So that focussed my mind and was tremendous motivation.

Killer Queen.

The King is one of my favourites. The cross is a separate piece that can only be inserted one way.

The knights are where things get tricky. Hands on physical sculpting was required.
