New book on Chess Collecting

I still have to identify this set, bought in Brazil, but it seems that the owner purchased it in Europe. The knights are well carved, with a similar quality as some of the old Regence knights.

That is a very attractive design, but at the moment I have no clue where this is from etc. I will keep looking out and if I find out more, I will let you know!

Holgar, I received the book today. I am deeply impressed by the quality of the work! Finally I can start to go slowly through my collection to understand what I have and perhaps make a catalog of it.

Thanks a lot, Renato! happy.png

I’m interested as well, I’ll send a message. Thanks

Thanks Holgar. I have also a an interesting chess clock which I simply couldn’t find anything about it. The design is astonishing, certainly the best in my collection. I will soon find the link to the thread.

Holgar, I just realized that I communicated already with you concerning the clock!

You are right, Renato. I have never seen another one like that. It looks like a custom made clock based on two pocket watches. Maybe if you could find out more about the patent mentioned on the label, it would give a lead.

brasileirosim
I saw only three of them. Two are um my collection, the other one was for sale in an antique shop in Bern, very poor condition and overpriced. The owner died some months ago. It has a new owner, I will check it out to see if it is still there.
DirectorHanson

Received my copy of Holgar's excellent book yesterday.
Enjoying it very much. 100% would recommend.

Rsava

And my book is across the river, about 1 hour away .... should be here tomorrow.

Sixteen days from Germany to the US (Florida), a very good shipping time. Can't wait.

EfimLG47

@DirectorHanson, thank you very much, David! Enjoy!

@Rsava, good to hear that transportation went rather smoothly. Not always granted these days. Let me (or rather us) know, if you like the book.

carnellm

Got my copy - what a beautiful book! Arrived well packaged and in great condition too. Thanks so much! I look forward to getting some quiet time to sit down with it in earnest.

TheOneCalledMichael

Beautiful book I agree, I'm still thinking what kind of collector I am lol

EfimLG47

@carnellm, @TheOneCalledMichael, thank you very much!!!

A very exciting arrival in the post earlier this evening….. woo hoo …time to read the book in hardcopy as opposed to the rough digital format of a few months ago. Thanks Holger!👍

EfimLG47

Excellent news, but shipping to Australia really takes a long time. I sent the book early March!!! shock.png

Powderdigit
Hey Holger - all good, I was in no rush but yes, I could see the item was dispatched on 3rd March - so 6+ weeks give it take. Same when I purchased the Philippine’s pieces from you. Global transport is a strange beast at present - I have received sets from India in under a week / 2-3 max but in truth, I rarely care about speed as long as it’s in its way. Thanks again for the book and I loved helping in my small way. Cheers to you good man. 👍
EfimLG47

It really is strange and it often depends on whether your shipment catches one of the limited air freight slots. For example, I sent two books to Alaska and the recipient estimated that they will need eight weeks to arrive (apparently the last bit is made by truck all the way from mainland USA to Alaska, which is time consuming). However, one book arrived after just six days, while the other took almost six weeks. Shipments to Australia and to Canada are the slowest at the moment, I am afraid.
