If someone wants this set but doesnt want to overpay and isnt bothered by packaging

I suggest those guys from royalchessmail, bought from them on 3 occasions, every time there was maximum satisfaction!

Yeah, but it is a reproduction which means it is a cheaper quality set, isn't it?

The two immediate differences I see are that the white pieces have black felts, unlike the originals, where the white pieces have white felts. The other difference, mentioned in the description, is that, unlike the originals, the repros DO NOT function on DGT boards. Other than that, the pieces appear to be a faithful copy. Of course, one would have to handle them to see if workmanship is satisfactory. But, for less than half the price of the originals, this set might be well worth buying.

Still can't get over how ugly this set is. Just like the EGT board pieces, it lacks everything a proper set should have. The designs of both the FIDE set and the EGT board set are too top heavy, and lack grace. The knights look awful with that stylized mane, and are unfortunately just a tweek of a design type which has been around for nearly 30 or 40 years, and shows no sign of being phased out. I don't think this cookie-cutter knight design is particularly ugly in itself, but it's unimaginative (probably developed for the sake of production expediency, cutting down the carving element to an absolute minimum), and considering the price you pay for many of the sets which have them, I can't help feeling the buyer is being conned.

One may quibble with various chess set designs of old, but nearly early all of them have one thing in common, they have proportions which give them an intrinsic beauty and harmony, even though each specific design may not necessarily appeal to everyone's taste. EGT and FIDE sets lack both of these qualities.

Of course, it isnt genuine. However if you like design you cannot go wrong. Only visible difference is they use black felt for both white and black pieces. Original set has white felt for white pieces.
