My 1849 Official Staunton Lacquer Antique Jaques 4.4" Reproduction Chessmen arrived today. I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of this historic reproduction. . Magnificent in every way. Museum quality set is an understatement! The finely turned pieces handle well and have a great feel. The AMAZING exquisite hand carved Knights are a sight to behold. Without question, the best hand carved Knights I have ever seen. But I was shocked by the Lacquer Antique finish...unbelievable, astonishing, supremely gorgeous beyond words. The rich elegant ebony pieces are a perfect complement to the antique lacquer pieces.  What's also nice about the ebony  pieces is that they have not been touched up with a black stain. Because of this, we see the natural beauty of the ebony wood with the "grain" or "figure" running through it..  This creme de la creme set will make a lasting impression and is highly recommended. If you only buy one premium quality set in your lifetime, let it be this set. A special thanks to Carl Miceli, who keeps raising the bar with his dedication and commitment to producing premium quality Staunton style chess sets at affordable prices.

Is is truly an amazing set. Like walking into a museum and seeing a restored 1849 set.  What a perfect match. The set will be a heirloom in its own right.

I have this set, it is good compared with similar staunton jaques copies but the body of the queen and king are somewhat too thick and the pawns are not that correct specially the collars. The base of the rook is also too chunky compared with the original Jaques and there are many differences in details but for the market  price of $250 it is still worth the money compared to many other similar sets that sell at higher price. Well for museum it is an over-exaggeration but for playing games with it in clubs and tournaments it is good and standard.

if you obtain this actual set from staunton uk official store  show us certification ? every set has certification , let all see yours ?

Beautiful Mike, i love the black pieces they look more like African Blackwood with that grain. Congratulations.
