They look pretty shiney for matte.

I have the set as well. But haven't had it out for a long while. Your post has inspired me to get it out and play over some of the Cambridge tournament games again. I had forgotten what an elegant looking set it is.

They look fine to me on that board DrChesspain.  Congratulations on your acquisition!

Would you mind posting a close up of your Kings and Knights?  Interested in a comparison.  Thanks.

A new book has been published on the CS1904 tournament.  It is in German.

Yes, and we are waiting for the editor/publisher to give permission to someone versed in both English and German so we all can enjoy it.  I hope permission is forthcoming for the sake of chess history.

From my read of the online excerpts (using Google translate) and my collaboration with the author, the historical value of this book will be unmatched.  In addition, I believe the book will contain all the known photos of "game action", which will provide more info for those interested in the chess sets used.  (I knew of four, but he located another.)  I don't know how robust the analytical content is, but I do know that GM Heubner contributed.

Certainly a wonderful reference for everyone interested in Cambridge Springs 1904, but I hope that you don't abandon your goal to publish your own version.  Thanks again for your generous gift of a copy of Dombrowsky's book and your collegial dedication that enabled him to benefit from many years of research.  I would still like you to sign it for me.

Great video. Enjoyed it so much. That was just a great tournament all around for so many reasons. Thank you so much for taking the time and making the video. This is truly chess history.
