From My Chess Library

Well... The Books of Keres himself are marvellous, but the Keres book for a "desert island" is Neishtadt " Paul Keres Chess Master Class". Why? Because is Keres and Neishtadt Vision and schoolarship of one of the most wonderful chess writers of the Soviet Union. All the books of Neishtadt are amazing. We have the  immersion in the essence of Keres style and beauty of chess.

The final "pic" is an original bank note of Estonia with Keres face.

Keres was a fine player in his time & probably would have been a World Champion. I have some books with a few of his games.

Keres + Kotov

The Art of the Middle Game

First and best chess book I ever read

Wandered into a second hand bookshop back in Africa when I was a teenager.

I was just getting into chess, and there it was, old and battered, just sitting on a shelf.

Chess books in Africa back then were a rare thing indeed, I did not even know that such a thing even existed.

I was lost to the world for weeks reading that book happy.png

I love the book Keres coauthored with Kotov called, The Art of the Middle Game

Others before me have rightly praised Keres' chapters, let me point out the chapter by Kotov on "Strategy and Tactics of Attack on the King" is excellent and the many pages spent describing when to castle on the opposite side and how to attack and defend in opposite castling is by far the best I've ever seen on that topic!

I would be curious to hear if anyone have read the book "World chess championship 1948" by Keres that was published last year? Does it hold the same class as his other books?

Hi everyone! I am interested in the book 4x25 that Keres wrote together with Ivo Nei. Why has it never been translated to English? Have anyone read this book and can give a short review? Have heard it has been translated to spanish and french.

I have the original Estonian and French editions. The latter was translated from the Spanish edition. It has 25 selected games each, well but not excessively annotated, of Fischer, Spassky, Korchnoi and Larsen. Well worth tracking down. My college French is adequate to read it, but you can always use the Google translate camera app if you do not know French.

It's a fabulous book, but don't just take my word for it. Kasparov has dubbed it the best tournament book ever written (he obviously read it in Russian when he was a kid).

I have read this in French and loved it. The same gentleman who is responsible for the Keres 194i book is working on an English translation of 4 X 25.

I'm a moderator of the Facebook group Chess Book Collectors and would recommend it as we valuable resource for all book questions.
