Poor Service and Quality from Chessbazaar....Round two!

I simply cannot believe how these folks can treat what I'd consider good customers, like myself.....I had a similar thread last Holiday Season and only after lodging a complaint with my CC company did I get results.....and...I still continued to place orders....Like over $2,000.00 worth of boards and pieces since.Mostly no issues.....but....I found that my 1849 Staunton Set and my Latvian set had developed cracks on some pieces from simply sitting in their wood coffers,in a properly humidified room.I collect acoustic guitars,so I know wood!!

I have sent at least 10 messages to CB,with ZERO responses....or....God Forbid,my three replacement pieces......I mean how hard is it to replace one white queen and one white knight from the 1849 Staunton set and a mere  white pawn from the latvian set?? So,I've once again been forced to cal my CC company.Something I am loathe to do,as I far prefer to be a good customer.

The frustrating thing is,Chessbazaar had once called me to tell me they had tried to reach me by my "perfectly functional" E-mail,but had no success.....OK,so why do I continuously get " latest sales going on"  messages from them,on that E-mail address.....and...Sapna had on two occassions messaged me to assure me no further problems would go on,without being addressed......Duh!!

I'd think 10 separate messages from me,over the last 5 weeks would at least turn up "one correspondence" from CB and umm, perhaps my new replacements!......Btw, I had ordered their 19th Century Austrian set that came in with 7 damaged pieces.....They did replace them and low and behold one white rook(replacement) came in with chips....I let it go........SHEESH!!

I usually keep my gripes to myself but I wanted to share this just because I'm so irritated with CB right now.

A few weeks ago I asked Sapna if CB would be able to make me a Red and Black Latvian set. Sapna replied that I should hold on because they would be releasing Red shortly. I asked if it would be Red and Black because when Soviets used red, it was Red and Black. Sapna told me they would they would announce their Red set soon. Was I missing something?

I later got an email from Sapna telling me that CB would be releasing their Red Latvian soon. I asked again if it would be Red and Black. The response was that they would be releasing Red soon.

Then I got an email from their quality control company asking me to rate their customer service. I said that I could not get a straight answer about the Red/Black issue.

Today I saw that CB released their Latvian pieces with Red stain. That's great, but when Soviets used Red, it was RED and BLACK.

Hello, CB, are you reading this? RED and BLACK!

Okay...I feel better now...but not really.

Believe me,I am not thrilled to post such a complaint, but when you spend(in good faith) the amount of money I did,it's nice to be treated like a valued customer.....For me(the first time around too) to not receive any responses, after a plethora of e-mails and not a hint of replacement pieces is beyond annoying!

Actually....I apologize.......I "did"  receive a response the first time around. After I lodged a complaint on this forum and with my CC company!

I just received an email from Sapna at CB offering me the opportunity to order a Red/Black Latvian set. I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

That CB has made an honest attempt to address the issue deserves credit.

Funny.......I finally  just now got a few e-mails.....Sheesh! .....I wish they could have reached out before i had to go through all of this.I'd have thought my first TEN e-mails would have been enough! Hated to post about it,or call my CC company, but apparently it got results.......

Last night before going off to bed I received an email from CB offering to produce a Red and Black Latvian set for me. I admit it settled me down a bit after having being irritated at them all day. I thanked Sapna and said that I would consider.

This morning I woke up and found an email thanking me for my consideration and an accompanying invoice inviting me to pay if I would like.

These guys. First they can't give me a simple answer then they give me the hard sell.

I finally got my problem solved.I would still give CB my business, but do realize sometimes communications are a bit difficult. They claim they can't reach me by my usual e mail address.Everyone else has no problems, but I'll give them a pass....In the future,I'll most likely call them, which would mean doing so "late"....EST.

good luck with your concerns

Sorry 'bout the whining. I'll pipe down now.

I wouldn't be sorry if I were you.

In fact I appreciate you and magictwanger getting on this forum telling of your woes with this company.  It really helps us all, including Chess Bazaar.

I bet they contacted you two because of your postings on this forum.

They are also very likely to now have these problems solved so they will not occur in future sales.

It also is good to see that they have responded to you guys.  This gives the company better credibility.

In all fairness to Chessbazaar, they did actually call me(long distance) to let me know they took care of the problem. After I posted and let them know I'd call my CC company.......but.....the only thing that kinda' bothers me is that they claim they cannot reach me by my usual E-mail address.Yet,I've gottne messages from them advertising sales and "now" two e-mails from Sapna......I'm hoping it's a coincidence and wish to give them the benefit of the doubt.......They "do" make nice sets at fair prices.......but.......I'd still rather pay more and be assured of no quality issues, down the road.

I will continue to use CB when I see something I like!!
