Post Your 2024 Eclipse Chess Pics

So there's a solar eclipse moving through the states on April 8, 2024 and I'm wondering what creative chess pics we can post of this event. My friends and I have planned a camping trip with chess, guitars, and (of course) beer to commemorate. My first eclipse in 2017 was an interesting experience, very surreal, but this time I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate the eclipse with chess. Can this even be done? ...hmmmm. I'm hoping for some real pics (nothing photoshopped) that makes us go ooooo....aaahhh. Good luck.

And if by chance you already have such pics, let's see them!

Thank you for the reminder. I'm gonna bump this because I like the idea.

I have an interesting prototype that I haven't shared pictures of yet. Teaser: I was gifted a set by a well known designer a few years ago... people will recognize it but I don't think any photos of it have been in the wild.

I was in the eclipse's path of totality today. I brought out some blue chess pieces to experience the Purkinje effect. I also decided to show off the light and dark kings of a similar set.

It was not possible to take a photo with the sun.

It was a little iffy at the start. There were some clouds partially blocking the view.

Then just as it was going into totality....a break!!!

@yenster1 thank you. Is that DGT's "Timeless" set? Very fitting.

Ohhh, I wish I washed the car and took a photo with the reflection. Darn! Maybe next time. wink.png

Base of the black king is very eclipse like though. lol

How did you take the photos?

@chesslover0003 The set is called a "Dubrovnik Standard" set by Muba in Slovenia. I'm guessing that the design is pre-1950, but I really like the compact quality for my smaller boards. The 15" board pictured is also a relatively cheap gem with wood inlays that are seemingly thicker than other paper thin veneers.

The pictures were taken with my DSLR camera. It was a bit difficult with the quickly changing light conditions and high contrast scenario, but basically I had to shoot in full manual and adjust iso, aperture, focus, and shutter speeds. Manual bracketing too, in order to adapt to the high contrast.
