Check this out, folks. What looks like a book ...

... is in reality a box for my chess pieces:

Mine's not clever but it works.

Great interior and great pieces!

A set and box I bought from House of Staunton off eBay. The set is the New York 1924 with antiqued white pieces. I consider these coffers to be expensive at the current list price of $299.00. However, it is much nicer than I expected and is a wonderful way to store a set.

Wow, maybe you are forbidden to play chess from your parents or GF? xD

Just kidding, nice box!

Gomer, here is a book which should accompany your set (note the spurious exclamation mark in the bottom note Smile):

I've almost ordered that book several times, not just to go with my set but also because it was supposed to be one of the best tournaments ever. It's interesting they're so excited about the 21st century.

I've also looked for a clock that could represent the 1924 time frame. Unfortunately, I can't find a modern clock with the proper retro look and I can't afford an actual 1924 period clock.

It's great that you kept if for all these years. Are all pieces still there? My sets tended to lose a piece once a decade or so...

One of these days I plan to build a compartmented box for the marble & onyx chess set & board in my avatar photo.  Right now it sets on our dining room table, but I would like to have a box to store it in when it's not in use, especially with a little one and another on the way.  A couple of the onyx pieces broke but I was able to epoxy them back together.  It would be nice to have a box with different compartments for each piece, and then big enough to hold the board, too.

My board is the box. The board folds up, and the pieces fit inside. It's not fancy, but I paid less than $20.00 for it.
