Thanks Mike.! Looks OK to me. A nice simple design. Looks like the Knights are indestructable. It kind of reminds me of the W.T. Pinney set sold under the Liberty series set by HOS . Going to order a set shortly.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I've been considering ordering the Liberty set for day to day use, including blitz.  But this set looks even better and appears perfect for blitz. I see nothing dainty or pointy, just a handsome, rugged design.

No question abouit it, the perfect set for blitz  and heavy daily use.

That first chess set (the ChessBazaar one) reminds me of the official world chess championship set (especially the rooks).

Found this nice 4.25" plastic set with 2.375" wooden board on eBay for $99.95, with free shipping. King has 1.875" base. Set is heavily weighted at 68 ounces (pieces only)!

Hey Lou, looks like a killer deal for under a 100 claims!! Did you get the set yet? Nice looking pieces too!

Great looking plastic set Lou. Who is the maker of the set. Looks like it is from the past maybe Pacific Games?

Hi Kick, I have no idea why the HOS stopped making their liberty set in a lacquer finish like the Pinney set was.  I think the lacquer finish gives it that look of the past which to me adds some class to it.  The first company to make a copy of the Pinney set in a lacquer finish gets my business for that set. Although I would rather find an orinigal someday. Cool

HOW IS THE QUALITY ON THE CHESS SET???

I should point out that some of the info at the HOS site about this set is incorrect.  Their copy states that "it features a 3.75" King with a 1.5" diameter base."  However, under "specifications," shown on the same page, they give a base diameter of 1.75 inches.  It is neither - when I measure the base, I get right at 1.6 inches.

It's pretty sad when a vendor like HOS can't even use a ruler.

I bought their Dubrovnik set a while back. I mentioned that their website had underlisted the set's weight by almost a pound! (Apparently, they can't use a scale either). But hey, It only took them a week to make the correction.

How is the quality on the chess set and pieces from India? No offence, but HOS seem to produce the best quality atm.

All the sets from HOS are made in India. In fact, most chess sets are made in India. My opinion, since I don't really know, is that differences in quality depend on the skill of the craftsman making the set and not which manufacturer he works for.

loubalch, I like that plastic set with the wood grain. Very pretty.

That's really, really funny, 'cause that's exactly what I thought too. Laughing

Any here actually physically visited HOS ?  Its about a 4 hour drive from me and I think I might just go there one weekend and see their merchandise first hand .

Good idea Reb.! Let us know how it goes.

This set is simply amazing. May give the Dubrocnik set a run for its money as the most popular set offered by CB

GNM, I got it a week or so ago. I like it alot. Have already played a couple of sessions with it. At nearly 21", it's slightly oversized for my local coffee shop tables, but just right for the chess club.

The plastic has this woodgrain-like finish. Surprisingly, it comes with leather (or pleather) pads, which made it easy to remove and reglue the 2-3 pads that were glued off-center (ok, I have a slight touch of OCD). One of those pieces rattled a bit. When I removed the pad I found a metal disc securely glued in place, so whatsever rattling is underneath. As long as I don't shake it like a maraca, it isn't that distracting.

The 2.375" wooden storage board that comes with the set is excellent. Would probably cost 2/3 the price of the set if purchased separately, so it's like getting the pieces for $35. The only drawback is that it doesn't come with extra queens, but at this price I'm not complaining.

BTW, I was in the market for a 2.375" chess board when I saw this set on eBay (not an easy size board to find), so my purchase was a no brainer.

Mike, it's from a company called Nexus Gadgets. From their eBay ad it looks like they have 10 sets left.

With over 16,000 reveiws, a 99.9% positive response rate, and a 30 day money back guarantee, I felt pretty comfortable pulling the trigger.

A great looking set.  Let us know what you think.  Pacific Games Company used to offer their plastic Cavalier in a faux wood grain version but it didn't look as realistic as this.

Edit: Scratch that part about telling us what you think. You already did!

Lou, this set and extras looks like a no brainer, I think I will order the  set. One more question, How's the quality of the large storage box? And was the set securely packaged... must have been a rather large box.

Lou, thanks for letting us know about this beautiful plastic set. Certainly a fantastic deal for Collectors and players.

GNM, the board is excellent, and comes well packed. It's secured with magnets that could be stronger, but will suffice as I use this bag for transport - it fits just right.
