Got my House of Staunton cheapskate set today :)

Fun Topic! Thanks, I've ejoyed lookig at folks' pics.
This is my main use set for home play, study and when I get a rare chance to play OTB @ the club.
It is an HOS Championship Series set (golden rosewood) with leather roll up board & a Duel Timer (walnut) clock.
I dont think I could limit myself to one chess set. I am always switching out which set I use at any given time. Clocks too. I am totally addicted to chess equipment! LOL I think I need help...
What else do you collect? I have only about 7 chess sets, I also collect Coleman lanterns and stoves, old Bibles, and old radios. Looks like you have a great collection of chess equipment.

At this time only chess stuff (not pictured is my collection of chess books) but I used to have a massive game collection. I really enjoy playing all types of games but chess is definitely my favorite. Your collections sound pretty cool. I do like old radios. Care to post a pic of them?
oh looking for a set where the king wieghs about a pound (I like heavy pieces) the hevier the pieces the better max wieght for heviest piece around 3 pounds
This is one I got 10 years ago in Mexico - Aztecs vs Conquistadors.
It's not my picture, but it's pretty much the same set.

I am so damn jealous.
I've resisted the urge to hijack this thread with pics of non chess stuff. I would have to take some pics of the radios to post them. Most don't work b/c they are tube type. But I have a 1962 GE solid state in a wooden case that I use to listen the N.O. Saints games every Sunday. And I have an old early 60's vintage Juliet that still works. As for the lanterns my oldest one only dates to 1948 most are 60's -70's vintage several, but not all, can be seen here:

As for my Bible collection I have about 30, the oldest of which is 1891, which is not considered to be very old by Bible collector standards.
This pic is of my fanciest set. My grandfather was from Yorkshire in England and my mother went to visit her cousins there a few years back. Evidently the SAC sets are made in Yorkshire, My Mother brought this set back with her and gave it to me for Christmas that year. I don't yet have a board for it but i keep it boxed ad shelved anyway, I won't display it until after my kids are grown. I don't really care for the non Stauton sets but this Richard the Lionhart set is rather playable.
This and a couple of onyx sets I got in Mexico (que tienen las reinas «o damas» blancas. LOL) are my only non Staunton sets.

More pictures please - close ups of the pieces, your other boards, etc. (I see a blue vinyl board just off the picture).
That's a nice red colour, too; where as Nethinim's red vinyl board looks too bright to me. I never liked those red boards but after seeing yours I'm a convert - where did you buy it? Is it house of Staunton like these: http://www.houseofstaunton.com/product_p/brdv225.htm
More pictures people - there are people out there who are looking to buy a chess set and they would like all the info they can get because these days you very often have to buy over the internet so can't eyeball and touch.
My dad used to collect $100 bills. I reckon if I'm to become a collector, I'd like to follow in the old man's footsteps.

I don't think that's what you want, cause that's the board I bought :P Though I do think it looks a little brighter and glaring in the picture, I'm pretty happy with it. Will probably buy more from HoS of other colors.
Here are a few of my sets:
First is a Custom Wood Creations 2.5" ribbon bloodwood with spalted maple light squares and ebony accents with HOS 4.4" Golden Collector pieces:
Next is another Custom Wood Creations board in 3.5" with red malle burl and maple burl with spalted maple accents and corners with ebony framing. Resting atop are custom HOS 6" Imperial Collector in ebony and antique boxwood. This setup really changes the perspective since it practically forces the players to stand while playing. I bought this to teach my daughter to think on her feet!
Last is one of my favorites. The framing of this one was East Indian Rosewood with 2" squares are holly and spalted maple. The pieces were a custom-order HOS 3" Collector in boxwood and golden rosewood. I prefer these smaller boards slightly over the bigger 2.5" boards.
Okay, here's a bonus pic from where I was messing around one night. It is two boards stacked. The bottom board is a scaled-down version of the big 3.5" setup listed above except with 2.5" squares and no corner treatment, and the top board has 2" squares and is very similar except the squares are amboyna burl and bird's eye maple. The pieces are the HOS 3.5" Harrwitz in ebony and antique boxwood.
Wow seasterl, nice sets. The second picture looks really nice. I still think for instruction a simple plastic set on one of those vinyl boards is best (no distractions); but, then again, maybe if you're teaching a child on such a prestigeous looking board they take it more seriously.
Need some close-ups of those knights in the second pic. *b1_ tries to see more detail by putting his nose to the screen.
Yeah, I personally think that board would look better without coordinates.
