I used an assortment of vintage hand tools to plane and shape this project, and finished it with shellac, topped with several coats of paste wax. Its surface is smooth, but irregular, sort of like antique float glass.
Wow, that's really nice. I can appreciate the work that went into it; I've tried my hand at precision joinery in the past and failed miserably :-)
Here's my HOS Classic set in boxwood and rosewood sitting on a board that was inspired by their walnut, maple and "cherry" tiroir. The frame is mahogany and genuine cherry, with cherry on the outside. The sides and drawer faces are also cherry, and it stands on red oak legs, none of which is depicted here.
