Love the chess table. Very classy.
Post Your Chess Sets

Hahahahah. Thank you 😂. That movie has been a full of family memories for me for so many years I cannot even count. We watch it all the time. I always said that one day I was going to own one. My mom, God love her!!! This year for my birthday bought me the full size original. Ahhahahaha. My wife just loves it. Hahahahaah
Thank you to everyone for the compliments. The table is truly remarkable. It was a big chunk of change, but I love chess; and I wanted a nice place to play, practice, study, learn, and to play with my daughter. We’ve already enjoyed five games today. She is becoming quite a chess player for 6 years of age. I’m excited to watch her grow.

I missed my opportunity to play her @5. I could have won.

I have watched that movie for as long as I can remember. I always look forward to Christmas when it would be on TV all of the time. However, I never actually thought about buying that leg. That is such a cool idea. I don't have the right window to display it. I wish I did. I would leave it in the window all throughout the holidays for all the neighbors to see and discuss.
I was going to my wife: "Is that what I think it is?" LOL Anyway thumbs up all around!

4" King - Liberty Series from House of Staunton - I bought this set because I love blitz and wanted a wood set that could take a beating. The rooks are like D batteries and for sure my favorite feature. The green board I truely enjoy... made in Belgrade, Serbia! It has a faux-rubber feel to it and is completely different than any of the other vinyl boards I've ever purchased. (had to buy and get it shipped here from out of the country) Overall... The set has a lot of character... One of the under appreciated details? The horse's mane... it's got these cross hatches that took me years to even notice. Thank you to the chess.com forum member here who recommended it. (you know who you are) Yep, I would buy the set again.. but likely ebonized. As for House of Staunton... I really have no real issues and CAN recommend buying from them. I had one purchase of a plastic set that had cracks in it, and had to email them pictures and argue with customer service that kind of made me mad... but at the end of the day they took care of it. The reality was I was just going to let my credit card company fight for me.. but House of Staunton took care of business before It got that far. Is it my perfect holy grail set? Nah, but it will get a ton of use over my lifetime.

Yep, a clone of the legendary - player's choice set...3.75" King - I bought this from chessusa. (something like $20) It's dollar for dollar the best money you can spend on a set as of todays date imo. I'm too young to know why the set was legendary to begin with.. but my guess is that the pawns are really what make the set "great to play." The wide bases are just different and give a stable feel when pushing the pieces around. The only downside to the set is the cheap fake felts that are used to hold the weights from falling out. The plastic is solid.. it's not that hollow nonsense that feels cheap. To be completely honest.. one of the knights has a felt loose.. and I'm just going to re-felt them all and have my perfect custom set. The picture makes the white pieces look like yellow.. they're not... irl, they're look like what you'd consider camel. My favorite plastic set that I own. Truth

Here's a real Drueke set that was likely purchased around the year 2000. This set sits in my closet -> inside of the carrying case and never sees play. I bought this set to start playing at my local chess club, but life always got in my way and I never had a chance to join. The set while plastic... is the best made plastic set I've ever felt. It's why I haven't sold it... because, they just don't make sets this well anymore... once in a while this set will be mentioned in the forums.. i wanted to post it and show people how a new set looks. The board is a huge drueke mouse pad. The set is truely awesome... but I don't keep it out because it's more of a relic than just a set to beat up and play. The felts are fairly shoddy... it's the only thing I'll replace one day.
Thought I saw a few dollar bills on the floor, just under the leg....My apologies! The eyesight is going.

Further to my first post (#1097) on this thread (and forum)... the addiction has started! I purchased a second set of pieces! My intent here was to have a set of pieces that I can take to work, play with colleagues, friends and family. I wanted a smaller 'club' size set (which I think is around a 3.75" King?) and one that could handle the rigours of speedier play, perhaps with a glass of wine or some other drink in hand!
Given my positive experience with my first purchase, I used CB again and purchased the GM Blitz set in ebony. I was attracted to what I think is a very classic design. To my taste the King, Queen and Bishop are wonderfully slender with a wide base. I think they look simple and quite beautiful - complimented by a one-piece knight. I am not sure why but I was attracted to this knight - a combination of it being one-piece and what I would call - 'traditional' yet has it's own-style and a touch of class. I am not sure if this is the right term - 'traditional' because I am new to the game. Forgive me if that is the wrong term - regardless - I think the set has form and function and is quite beautiful in its simplicity including a lovely knight. You will see that, for the purposes of the photos, I have paired it with the larger board that I purchased earlier - the pieces are smaller but I don't think it is totally out of place probably because on the wide bases. So at home, I'll use this board.
Given these posts are to help people - like this forum (and experience collectors) helped me when I was researching my first purchase - I will say again that the service from CB has been good.
The speed of delivery to Australia is staggeringly fast - 4 workings days for these pieces. I should say that this set does not have the finesse of the 'luxury' pieces I purchased earlier - but it is still wonderful. What do I mean by "not the finesse"? Well... to this novice's eye, the 2016 Bridle Knight series in the previous post is near flawless (Again... to my eye ... but I am not an expert and have not seen other sets! Like a Noj, for example. So please understand - I am not making comparisons except for the very narrow field of two sets that I have!) In this set, all pieces are again well buffed although there appears some slight dust marks embedded in the buffed sheen in a few pawns? Probably not a good description and hard to see from a distance ... just not flawless - like my last set. Nothing that makes me regret my purchase. Does that make sense?)
Also, the pieces are weighted but lighter than the bigger, 2016 Bridle Knight set. There was one substantive issue - the weight in one of the knights was not flush with the base, so it rocked on the board. When I informed the CB customer service staff of this - they committed to send another piece via standard post. No drama for me there - I am in no rush.
All in all another excellent set. Photos below. That is enough sets for me for a while now... who knows when I will next purchase but I am glad I have started the journey and I am loving playing the game!
Beautiful! A great combination.
