Very nice.  3D set. Smart move painting and laquering as it gives it a much more real wood loook than the 3d plastics typically have. Did you design the model yourself, download it somewhere? Great job btw.

Thank you.i had seen that model to a page yes,but some minor changes were made

Very very nice panosliak, congratulations!

Also, hate to be that guy, but the white square is on the right ahaha, great work anyways.

Nicer than many of the commercial sets.  Well done!

Finally got my replacement knight from Staunton Castle today. Yeah! It arrived safe and sound. Sometimes the squeaky wheel does get the grease!

The main issue with these glossy boards is, that the pieces become very slippery (beside irritating light reflections). That's why they are not really appropriate for "serious" play.

Good for you!  Thanks for the reminder.  Still nothing from SC on my issue and they never answered my last email.  I just sent my seventh message about this.  This time not so friendly

You sure you're not just yanking us? These don't look like 3D printed plastic at all. I've seen wooden pieces that looked less like wood than these.

sound67 They are made with 3D printer indeed.Take a closer look and you will understand

Picked up another older set for a few bucks, for cuteness rather than value .

I love homemade sets like this. So much character! I wouldn't call the box "makeshift". There are details in the box like the corner joints and the bevel cuts to the edges of the lid that suggest he knew some woodworking.

From the uniformity of the pawns, rooks and bases, one can tell he was technically skilled with the lathe. He had quality tools at this disposal. But then you look at the varying shapes and heights of the bishop, king and queen. He must've seen the differences in height. But then said to himself, "Good enough."

The rather crude Knights are charming, but I sorta wish he would've spent just a bit more time with the Knights. Free-hand sculpting was probably not his forte. But he did his best.

With all that said, I would've picked this up in a heartbeat for my small collection. LOVE!

Nice find Mr Sound!

This is actually a reproduction of the W.T. Pinney pieces, an American set produced around the 1930s and 1940s (?) I believe.

I have the HoS Liberty Series version myself, and I very much like it. The set does not seem to be particularly popular, but I think the design is fantastic and very playable.

Here's a set I bought on eBay a year or so ago. If anyone has any idea what it is please let me know. It's unweighted unfortunately. It's boxwood and ebony and quite big, with 4 inch Kings. Knights and Rooks are not marked.

Brynmr

I don't think I posted my ebony/boxwood Danum set from Staunton Castle in this thread so here ya go.

Yes, you're right ! I just confused them - sorry.

I purchased the reproductions at RCM, but I think HOS are selling them identical (just under the name "liberty series". ) Very nice indeed, I love them, a nice wood finish and coloring, very well designed.

The club series, I purchased them at a german reseller, that imported from HOS, due to the market shortages, that gives him an exclusive and nice incoming stock. These US sets are very rare here in Europe and not usual at all. In France, all clubs are playing classical wood style boards and pieces.

I however like the US setups pretty much and use them in plastic with green/white boards in Vinyl, Silicon or thin Mousepad for training and study, so a wooden version nice to have for OTB play. happy.png
