purchasing Chess Equipment Online

I've created this topic to discuss tips when purchasing chess equipment online.

Great! Thanks @AwesomeAtti. We can use this to discuss any advice on buying chess sets.

I know that there has been advice about buying chess sets with what's called "3rd Party Protection". But maybe we should take a look at what that really means, or maybe there are a lot of misconceptions too. Good or bad, maybe all of this can be debated here.

Since this thread was created by a moderator, I anticipate that all debate will keep to the policies of this site, and remain kind and respectful. I'm guessing anything not in line with the policies will just get deleted by the mods.

While there are "Free returns" on lot of sale items from Amazon, I've noticed that most of the chess related items don't have "Free returns". The example that you showed here doesn't have the noted "Free returns" that we see for a lot of other things sold on Amazon. And, in your text about "How does FREE Returns work?"... that only applies to items that actually show the listings which display the text "Free returns". So, in your example above, this doesn't apply.

EDIT: the following was added to show how the first part of the referenced Amazon policy was hidden by a member in the following debate, which defines "Free returns".

=====================

What items are eligible for a FREE returns option? Amazon.com offers free returns on most items delivered to an address in the 50 United States. Look for “Free returns” next to the price to confirm that the item qualifies for free returns. Learn more about Free Returns

How does FREE Returns work? All return-eligible items, weighing under 50 lbs and sold by Amazon, have at least one free return option. You can return the item for any reason in new and unused condition for up to 30 days after purchase.

So here's a prime example of how DKW begins to be rude and call people names. It always seems to happen when he's proven wrong and can't back his claims and just starts to spew out a bunch of meaningless garbage.

Nothing above says that those chess sets have "Free returns".

Avatar of Yenster1

So...where on your example above does it say "Free returns"? If you can't shows where its says that, then you're proven wrong.

Avatar of Yenster1

Hmm...You keep putting up the same text for items that actually say "Free returns", which your example above DOESN'T show. So...where is the policy that says the returns are free for items that DOESN'T show "Free returns"? Are you not able to show us that?

Avatar of Yenster1

You do know that we are discussing whether or not a return is free of any charges, right? We're NOT discussing (right now anyway) whether or not a chess set is returnable.

So...where does it say that an item that DOESN'T say "Free returns" will actually be free to return? Can you NOT show that?

Avatar of Yenster1

And...again...again...and again....you keep putting up the text for something that is actually listed with "Free returns". Show us the text, or link, to where is says the return is free for something that DOESN'T show "Free returns".

Avatar of Yenster1

So...do you understand the words "Free Return" in this screenshot for a different item that actually has "Free Returns"?

Your example above does not have that. Do you understand?

Avatar of Yenster1

It looks like you keeping wanting to talk about something else, like whether it's 'returnable or not'. Does that mean you don't want to talk about whether the return is 'free or not'? Are you not understanding the topic of "Free Returns"?

And per your link to Amazon:

What items are eligible for a FREE returns option?Amazon.com offers free returns on most items delivered to an address in the 50 United States. Look for “Free returns” next to the price to confirm that the item qualifies for free returns. Learn more about Free Returns

Do you see that it said to "Look for "Free returns" next to the price"?

Do you understand now?

Avatar of Yenster1

And this ONLY works for items that say "Free Return"....just like Amazon said in the link that you provided. Do you understand, no not?

LOL... that video was for items with "Free Returns", not for items without "Free Returns". I know you just want to put up stuff to confuse people...but get real...Your example that you gave DOESN'T have "Free Returns". Looks like you just don't want to admit it.

To everyone else who wants to know how Amazon works (regarding "Free Return"), use this link to Amazon to see what DKW kept hiding from us regarding "Free Returns". Here's what it says (notice what he didn't post that was right above the text that he kept posting here):

=====================

What items are eligible for a FREE returns option? Amazon.com offers free returns on most items delivered to an address in the 50 United States. Look for “Free returns” next to the price to confirm that the item qualifies for free returns. Learn more about Free Returns

===========================

Don't accept any other stories...just go look for yourself through that link, then look at any chess sets that you may want to buy from Amazon and compare prices to vendor websites. You'll most likely find a better price on direct vendor websites (Just be sure to use their discount codes).

Avatar of Yenster1

Regarding this concept of "3rd Party Protection":

  • "Free returns for any reason"? -- False! - As proven above, if you just don't want it, you have to pay for returning it. There could also be some other fees, which vary on vendors' policies.
  • "No questions asked for returns"? -- False! - As proven above, there will be questions to determine the reason for the return, and then used to determine the charges.
  • "Free returns for defects or damage"? -- True! - However, this is the same policy as buying directly from most any vendor. I got a 100% full refund and no return charges when I bought an item RoyalChessMall due to a defect.

So...nothing has been shown, so far, as better "3rd party protection" when buying chess items through Amazon over buying directly from vendor websites. And most times, you will pay more money when buying through Amazon (Amazon has to make their money wink).

Please keep in mind that Amazon is not there to protect buyers over protecting sellers. Amazon makes money from sales (among other things). Yes, they want to keep buyers happy so that buyers will keep buying....BUT....they also want to keep sellers happy so that sellers will keep selling. It works both ways...just remember that.

So in this example from the other thread....

If this chess set was bought with Amazon. This member would have gotten a free return on the shipping.

And the full amount of the money back for the chess set. And the member would not have been screwed over again by Royal Chess Mall.

Well that has already been proven false, even with your own example. So you seem to still be making false claims.

How is it False.....

It doesn't say "Free returns". So why would you say it's true?
