I must reccommend the set I have at home which I use for tournaments and studying, it is called "The 'London' Chess Set" with the Staunton pattern, 95mm King, Black and Ivory plastic, high quality finish: felted bases. The 2 sets I have (4 different colours) are tournament standard and beautifully crafted pieces.

I must reccommend NOT getting double-weighted pieces because the normal weight are much nicer and perfect for home use, I must also reccommend making sure that the rooks have 6 grooves not 4 grooves, simply because they are much nicer to look at. If you want to see the pieces I can upload a picture of them tomorrow so you know what I'm on about.

You will not need to ever buy another chess set, they are all in exactly the same perfect condition as the day they were bought! It's better to invest £30 in a good set than £10 on a cheap set, you won't regret it! Just don't buy ultra-fancy pieces that it is hard to distinguish between them... the Staunton pattern is original and best ;)

Oh yeah, the 4 colours I have - Red, Blue, White and Black. I use any combination of colours depending on my mood and if I'm learning or playing for fun, red and blue is a suprisingly good combo, as is normal white and black. My personal favourite is white and blue that's amazing trust me!! I have yet to match red and black though...
