Question : openings Repertoire Traning in Chessbase 16

Hi all,

I'm looking for a precise information regarding the Chessbase (database) software.

I know (due to a youtube video explaining it) you can train on an insane amount of openings already known and gathered within Chessbase (since Chessbase 15 actually) using the WhiteRepertoire or BlackRepertoire.

You have to chose a opening and choose "Replay Training" afterwards.

Long story short, what do I have to get to be able to have access to this fuctionnality?

Does Chessbase classical version comes with a opening repertoire or do I have to purchase something else (opening encyclopepdia?).

It seems it's not something used in the cloud (the video shows the person working offline with local files in Chessbase 15).

You can find the functionnalilty I'm really interested in in the following video :

What do I need to get this kind of thing besides Chessbase "classic"? happy.png

Thanks in advance for your answers and advice, I really need it.

Chessbase in general is not very intuitive and this is especially true with some of these newer features. I personally use chessable and created my own repertoires on that platform by using my purchased repertoires and customizing (adding and changing specific lines). I then use chessbase for a lot of statistics and researching lines that I then add or change on my chessable custom repertoires.

Thanks for your reply and advice. However, it's far from what I'm looking for as information about Chessbase.

I'm not looking for any kind of alternatives.

Goto the Chessbase Site. You will find some tutorial for openings with CB under support. Good luck.

Thanks, it seems lots of people are not really interested in this functionnality given the amount of alternatives.

I might reach to the Chessbase support to know what kind of product suits the best but the answer given would surely be "premium package" if good sellers...

Maybe I'll try to reach a contact who has Chessbase 16 to know what's needed... won't be easy but worth a try.

Yes, Chessbase 16 is a powerful tool. That's why I recommended the tutorials on the Chessbase homepage. You should study them patiently.
No pain, no gain.
The manual also has 500 pages.
I use CB16 very intensively for my opening training and don't use any other tool.

Thanks you so much! What a fool am I not thinking about the manual! It's been an hour but still no precise way to know what to purchase to have all the ECOs available.

BUT it seems you can "extract" them from databases.

I'm kind of desperate because if, for instance, B02 has never been played in the database I got, you can extract all you want the openings you'll never get B02 (you can still insert it you'd tell me).

I have reach chessbase support. They are pretty fast to respond (I hade to contact them in the past).

I've already watched a few hours of tutorials (but after the manual it seems to me it's not enough to know all the possibilities). One step at a time though.

Hi all,

I know I could edit my previous message but since it's news I'm bringing it seems appropriate to post a new one. Besides, if someone has the same question, this person will have what I consider to be the most complete answer.

So, I reached to Chessbase support with the question on "how to get all the ECO in Chessbase to train". Basically, the program only is enough for what I need because of the access of the cloud database but none of the ECO will be annotated of course.

The best deal as I've been told is the megadatabase for ECO and ECO+annotation. I was aware of that but baby steps... I'm far from there so Megadatabase 2022 is maybe not the way to go if 2023 is coming...

Considering buying the Encyclopedia of Openings is not a bad option either and can be done later. I don't think I can be really certain before buying the program (I won't got to the full package that's for sure).

Thanks for the help!
