Thanks guys, I very much like the combination also.
I feel the pieces should be black and white (no other combination) and the squares light and dark (not black and white). Anything that doesn't meet that criteria doesn't look quite right to me.
With the new board, 9.5/10.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I like the colors of that cardboard board.
If you would get a piece of cardboard bigger, without thos creases it would look very good.
I would also put some black tape on the edges.
