Reassess your chess question

I think I'm going to study Silman's Reassess your chess.  Can it be studied at all without a board or will I pretty much need a board the whole time?

You won't really be getting anything out of it (or almost any chess book) without slowly playing along to the examples.

Board or computer, unless you can calculate 30 moves ahead accurately (as well as side variations).  I guess you could just read it for the ideas and ignore the tests and examples, but that just doesn't sound right.
