Replacing weights in chess set

Has anyone ever tried replacing the weights in a bottom of a chess set?  I found my old weighted wooden set that I used for years while I was in high school and to my disappointment, I discovered that one of the pawn's felt pad and weight fell off and now that pawn is disproportionately lighter than the rest of the pieces.

I am pretty sure I can buy some felt from a craft/fabric store, it is the weight that I am wondering about.  The set is double weighted so the filler has to be a little on the dense side.

Has anyone repaired or modified their weighted sets, if so, please give me feedback or suggestions.

yes, simple. match the hole size with the shank end of a bolt. cut the threads off, measure how long the piece you need by inserting it in the base of the pawn, mark it with a pencil and cut it with a hack saw, glue in place with a glue stick, glue the felt in place, your done.

You can buy some lead, and just cut a piece of it off, and shove it into the chess piece.

Lead shot mixed with some kind of glue would let you customize how much weight you'd be getting.

Thanks. I will give it a try.  I think something lead will work the best.  I will let you know how it turns out.

I'm in the process of planning and making a premium set myself. In terms of weights, I think I am going with lead piano key weights. They come in different sizes (5/8, 1/2, 3/8, etc), and are slightly tapered. I think they will work great and will add tremendous weight to pieces. Hope that helps, though this is probably resolved for you by now.
