Your set is BEAUTIFUL!!!  Thank you for posting so many pics.  I've held out nearly a decade for a high end set and it appears the delay in gratification was worth it

Thank you a lot happy.png

(and I was the first one to receive this amazing set tongue.png happy.png happy.png happy.png

More seriously, I know that it seem strange when a seller say about a chess set that it is perfect... I had think to myself, it is a bit suspicious when i had read the advertising on Corky Stanton site or on Official staunton ...
But i honestly think that it is really "The Perfect One" (and the only one)

(Allow me to laught a bit in myself when we can see, somewhere wink.png the price sooooo atrociousely expensive of a chess set which is far very far very very far of the perfection of this one...)

At last, i finally found it!

I have retrieve the photographie i was looking everywhere for:
Now: just look how it is really the perfect and ultimate reproduction to date of a "real" Staunton"...

And if you do not own it, or you are not going to buy this perfect replica... cry! wink.png

...Here is the weight and size of the pieces (i took it on Official Staunton site)

Allow me: someone ask me about the quality and the feel of the 1849 Registered Staunton Chess Pieces, i really think it is Perfect.

Perfect is a word which may be use here and there...

But when you will own this set, feel the pieces, you will immediately understood what i speak about...

Actually I disagree.

Carl finds the finest craftsmen and makes sure the sets are perfect in details and looks.  Frank Camarratta also has done this in the past.

These newer sets, reproductions, actually look and handle better than the original vintage sets.

Now if you are buying a set for collecting purposes where you will play very little, then the vintage sets fill the bill.

For actual playing and handling there are no finer sets than produced by Official Staunton and The House of Staunton.

@MySet: thank you for sharing. I really like the lines of this set. as always, I do have to say it's too big for me, but it looks exceedingly prestigious and elegant. I would be worried about cracks with heavy weighted pieces, which is one of the reasons I went for a Noj set this year, but I saw on the website that they offer a lifetime guarantee against hairline cracks. That must mean they are pretty confident in their products. Overall, looks like a great set, congrats!

Wow!  This sounds like one of those instances that the description lived up to reality.  For others who felt similarly, I believe you've gone great lengths to put their concerns at ease and yes!  I've seen this "type" of reproduction set sold at over 3x the price on other sites.  I feel fortunate to soon own such quality at a fraction of the price.

Let's be honest; I think most sellers only want to sell their products, that's all!

But it may be that, sometimes, one guy, in a kind of search for perfection to make chess pieces as perfectly as possible, a seller is actually sincere in his approach and, in this case, as he is so happy with the result, he is sure of him because he managed to create a great product ...

I'm really blown away that someone is finally able to do what many people were waiting for ...

So yes, how would it be possible not to be dazzled by such a result, these chess pieces are perfect!

Now, I think I'm not going to make me friends, but that's not my goal, so ...

I'm sincere, that's all. I say what I think, and think what I say.

About a certain House of ...wink.png, not to mention it
He is right, if people are enough "hum! Hum!" to spend so much money, so much money !!! ... why not do it ...;)

I do not particularly appreciate big chess sets, and I do not find that this one is too big, I find on the contrary that this set is particularly well done.

You can see on one of my pictures, with the three knights: the white knight belongs to a really big chess set, the king is about + 13 or 14 cm if i remember well.

and i do not find that these chess pieces are heavy, see the weights displayed on their site and on the photo above wink.png, I believe that the real players of chess (what I am not) appreciate the pieces that hold well in hand...
I do not know much in "weight in chess", but I like to believe that this chess set has been thinking and designed to the perfection in each and every details ...

My other 3 classic Staunton are all heavier, (there are up to 28 grams of difference ...)

And i will certainly not worried about cracks in that case... yes there is the guarantee, but more then this, i am sure that Carl has certainly think on this hypothetical trouble ... and every thing else wink.png

The vintage one is much more beautiful and attractive but we all know how expensive and rare vintage chess sets are nowadays.

I was lucky to find this vintage chess sets last month. It is a real work of art.

Can you post photos of your chess set.

Thank you.

PS: are we talking of Antique chess set...or vintage chess set?

From which circa do you estimate "Vintage" began... 1940 seem ok ?

Vintage is far more superior to copies due to superior art, higher quality wood and more balanced proportion, however, unlike copies, genuine vintage sets are very expensive.

Allow me:

I will really appreciate to see your chess set...that way we could compare.
Please, share with us some photos your chess set...

But Oh! [surprise] i suppose, to speak like this, you certainly own the same chess set i have in front of me... and you have already compare the quality, feelings, weight, softness, elegance, colour, precision, ebony quality, wood quality, size, details, etc... of your chess set and of the 1849 Staunton Registered from Official Staunton...

Because if not...

How can you speak about chess pieces you even do not know anything???

Personally, I use the following classification:

Older than 100 years: antique

Newer than 100 but older than my age: vintage

"Newer" than me: that's modern! tongue.png

Hi roberto73,

That seem (to me) a fair and logical thought happy.png

Lol @ the youTube link. I also see a similarity in writing syntax and in the style. By style I mean the very declarative nature of post and claimed ownership of sets. Other small things as well.  Hopefully we are wrong and Mr. Scotch will provide us pictures of his personal sets.

TundraMike

GM4U yes it is and the best way to get rid of a TROLL is to report the posts.  I know it is because they once again put a FALSE country. The messages originate from the United Kingdom just like Stauntommaster did. He just wants to start trouble by repeating the same thing over and over. He had some beef against Official Staunton and any vendor from India even though 98% of the chess sets come from there (wooden ones).  I have no idea if the higher ups will discontinue his account for what he wrote so far as he/she seems to be a bit more careful. It is aggravating as the complaints from paying customers once again have started.

Time to revive this thread, I guess!

I finally got my hands on my first original Jaques (I bought it a few months back but could get it only now as I had it shipped in my home country and I live abroad). It's a library set dating back to c.1855, Anderssen jaw drop knight. As you may imagine, the set was quite expensive, despite not being in the original box, and, unfortunately, one ebony pawn has a chipped collar (which shouldn't have had... frustrated.png ) but the set is really beautiful overall and I am quite excited for finally owning a small piece of chess history!

Nice set Roberto! Thanks for the pics. Too bad about the pawns collar, maybe it can be repaired?

Hi   Nakamura-Bezwinger  would be nice to see your  own photographs of your said antique Jaques set.

As it seems like you just copy paste photos of sets from Tim at antique chessshop.
