Reproduction and Real Jaques of London Chess Set

very nice set, Charles. Would you be willing to share who made the set for you? Also - I'm intrigued by the board. Is it vintage?

Thanks, RC.
I had 2 photos that were sideways of the different size kings so I deleted them.
I will take more photos and post them.

The 2.5" squares board is new. I had to buy it from Jaques of London and have it shipped from England. Jaques of London in America doesn't sell it. I bought it in December when I bought my Official Staunton 1851.
The set looks good with the 4" Kings also. I need my wife to take more photos, she's the photographer!
I gave Crumiller's measurements to the manufacturer so the Queens and Bishops are shorter than most reproductions.

Charles set is made by one of our manufacturers and we would have offered these sets but for the fact we agreed with Frank C in the interest of fair play we would not as he put a tremendous amount of effort and money into its realization. The knights are from his 1849 reproduction set. I am certain Charles will not disclose the manufacturer as he would have been sworn to silence and would have paid a heck of a lot for this one off set, quite possibly half of the cost of Franks 1849 however there would be no lozenge or certificates or box,

Just so you know Charles, we have stopped our trading with this particular supplier simply because they cannot be trusted. They have an exclusive agreement with Frank Camaratta for this particular design, any company that goes out of its way to supply an individual a set that can be purchased from the very vendor it supplies is not worthy of our business.

I was just going to say that the knight in Charles's set bears a remarkable resemblance to that in the upscale House of Staunton set.

When I state its made by one of our manufacturers I confirm 100% it is made by the ones whom have a so called exclusivity with Frank Camaratta for this design ...here are the knights from HOS website.

Thanks, Charlie and GM4U for posting these images. I always thought this was a kind of set to display, but having played on Charlie's set, I can tell you it has a very nice feel--quite playable.
The set is quite eye catching. People sitting next to us at the club were asking about it, making various comments, like one person really liked the rook (I thought, "The rook? Yeah...but what about the knight or the Henry VIII size King?"). Today it is hard to imagine chess clubs bringing out these pieces for use at tournaments, the way they did in the Golden Age of Chess. Even 2 or 3 of these sets for the top boards at a tournament would add heft to the occasion.
Anyone bringing out a DGT version? (snicker)
