Reproduction and Real Jaques of London Chess Set

An inexpensive way to learn more about Jaques sets is to buy Dr. Fersht's book on the topic in the Kindle edition -- https://www.amazon.com/Jaques-British-Chess-Company-Sets-ebook/dp/B07JHLBNB6/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Alan+fersht&qid=1589286205&sr=8-1
$773.47 for Paperback Version !!! 😳
Do I need to point out that the man said the KINDLE EDITION: $9.99???
Doesn’t work for everyone. Maybe it’s my location? Is there any other way to obtain this interesting book?

That is indeed a crazy high price for the book which they call a " print replica". Waiting for a sucker to come along. It would make PT Barnum proud.

Pretty sure that auction violated California's ivory ban. Last set I saw for sale in US went for 1/3 of the pre-ban price and could only be sold because the buyer and seller lived in states that didnt have the enhanced bans like CA and NY.

Staunton Castle is a vendor that has not been mentioned much in this thread, but I just received my Morphy Cooke 3.5" set from them and I think it is one of the best on the market, regardless of price. Admitedly, I base this on photos, and not from real life exprerience with all the different reproduction sets.
I got the distresssed version, and I know that some people like it, and others absolutely do not. I think the set I bought looks better than the photos used in the advertisements for this set, and looks like a pretty decent replication of an aged patina you see on the real antiques. I am very happy with the set overall. I think it is a pretty darn accurate reproduction, compared to others on the market. The finish of the wood is outstanding. Here's a comparison of this set with a real Morphy Cooke antique:

Now I'm no connoisseur of fine chess sets, but just I wanted a set remeniscent of of an old hstoric set, and I think this is exactly what I hoped for. I'm sure some of you experts out there will be happy to criticize it. Whatever.
It is sitting on a stone board with 1.7 inch squares. It is a bit small as the king base goes edge to edge. But the king base is much larger than all the other bases, so really this board fits all the pieces except the king perfectly. I think 2" would be the best size, and I might have board made in the style of the old Jaques boards to go with this set.
@Chasbernie: recall that sets made for Leuchars did have the option of being weighted, as did the Jaques original advertisements. I do have a weighted 1849 set.
