Beautiful! Many thanks!

@ Carl: Is that the board you sell on the Official Staunton website, the one that's 58 mm per square? If so that looks great. I'm just wondering about the size of the set, but I already had a feeling that despite it being a bit shorter, it should work great with 2,25 inch square boards. I can't wait to get my set, will promise to post pictures upon arrival!

Here's a little something we should  know, there is an importer of chess sets called Chess Wise. www.chesswise.com that sell sets to hobby shots and toy stores under the name House of Jaques(Amritzar Ivory Works) if you don't know. Now I found at Games of Berkeley in Berkeley Ca. what I would call a 99.8% reproduction of the 1849 set. King height 4.4 in. weight 84oz. Now I don't have photos but the set can be order from their web site for $129.95 The main difference between this set and real or reproduction Jaques is the knights have what I call Spook ears in other words unlike other sets the ears point straight up and not carved in like all the other Jaques knights.I hope this helps I will try to post a photo of the set.

That looks to me very like a genuine quite early Jaques set ^^^

I just received my 1851 antiqued reproduction set from Official Staunton and I think the set is outstanding with a great price; at least when compared to House of Staunton! However this set seems to be a more accurate copy of a Jaques 1849 than a 1851. The set is heavily weighted as it should be. It has a great patina that is a kind of golden brown that looks very authentic for a reproduction. The bishops' mitre is nice and wide and angled correctly, to my eye, and it is a beautiful looking piece. The kings' head is not to rounded as it was in the 1849 set from Official Staunton. The queen and bishops look great too. They aren't to tall as they both were in the 1849 set. In other words the 1851 is a better 1849 copy than there 1849!?  That's OK with me though, because what I want is a great 1849 Repro! NOW FOR MY GRIPE! Are all the chess manufacturers' blind? Can non of the chess manufacturers look at pictures of knights that we know were manufactured in a certain year, for example 1849, and reproduce a knight to look like the photo? I hope nobody bought a House of Staunton 1849 set for $3500! Because if you did you paid a small fortune for some poorly reproduced knights! On there website they have a photo of a genuine Jaques 1849 set. Well look carefully at the photo of the real knight from 1849 and then look at their reproduction knight. Are you kidding me? I don't see a huge egg shaped divot in the original Jaques knight. Where did that come from? And why? The knight would look more original if the carver left the jowl alone. In fact I'm going to try and see if I can find some artist to either fix my knights or carve me new ones. My point is I shouldn't have to do this! At least Official Staunton tries to sell you a nice set at a fare price. House of Staunton should be ashamed of themselves!

OK, GM4U, Official Staunton, House of Staunton Chess Bazaar.

Look at the photo of the knight above. I challenge all of you to make this knight. Can you do it? Nobody has done it yet! Who will be the first? It is a genuine 1849 Jaques 4.4" club knight. Please make your knights look like it when you make a 1849 reproduction! Please note the jowl is mostly smooth with a very small indention! Please study the knight carefully and make your manufacturers in India carve knights like it. The first company to do so will sell out! Why? Because the public can't buy knights likes these unless they buy a real 1849 Jaques!

To whoever successfully reproduces this set.

Put me on the list.

Chess bazaar is already selling their 1849 2.0 version and it looks similar to the original.

So I should just buy a 1849 reproduction set and wait 100 years.  happy.png
