@Geeky: not enough to setup a position, I need to reproduce lines exactly as they are.
@chessbond: Lucas it's ok, but in case of wrong move immediately shows the proper one. Do you know any way to avoid it ?
Chess hero is one of the best chess software (I use it with chessbase's big database and stockfish), but not what monomero is asking for I guess.
I know ChessHero, it's a lot of fun, but doesn't suit the purpose.
@Vladimurr: where is the study mode in Scid vs. PC ?
Options / Game info / Hide next move.
If you do not play the expected move it asks you if you want to overwrite. I use it with Eduardo Sadier's collection of 130 000 + problems, works fine.
I also use scid on the go on android, it's even better, there really is a "study mode" option and entering the wrong move gets a plain "wrong move" message.
Arena is okay too. I often use it to make sure there really is a solution when I can't solve a problem for too long without actually spoiling everything (right-click on the board and show/hide analyis area), since there is a window announcing mate in x or the advantage value.
Seems "the scid way" is a reasonable compromise :-)
LucasChess is nice as well, but unfortunately tells the right move after the first mistake. If it was just an option to set how many attempts are allowed ..
Where did you find that huge collection ?
Chess Hero can go sequentially through a pgn file. It doesn't have to be random. And it can wait until you get the answer right before moving on. It has tons of options for that stuff.
That's news to me. Since I already had other software for that I've never looked for it. Mind describing how it's done?
I've got a pgn file of trainig positions I want to practise with.
Any software that hides the solution and let continue as the actual move matches the stored one ?
