my everyday set is a board/piece combo set from David Levy Wooden Creations. I play alot outdoors, and my Staunton sets do not go outside.

Beautiful. That David Levy board has been in my Favorites list for months now. Great to see one "in the wild." How does the bottom look? Is it double-sided with raised border on the bottom as well? Or flush?

no raised border...just an 1/8" or so height difference, and 4 rubber feet. The squares, being solid, are visible from the bottom.  as a small sidenote, I purchased this set at a yard sale for $20. Board and pieces.

I am unsure the pieces he used, (he only makes the board) but they are great quality and heavily weighted.

here's another pic with a 1930's table I picked up at an antique store...

I have a great zagreb set from Houseofchess.com. It's super playable. Short pawns, which I prefer. Sturdy pieces. Knights are really easy to move quickly in a rapid game. Queen doesn't have any sharp points. All this adds up to being really playable and durable.

IMO, Either the German knight tournament sets or a classic staunton set would be my everyday go to chess.  Will share pics after clicking.

That one look very cute and cartoonish. Do you know if they still sell that one ?

I packed up the V3 ultimates and vinylpad into the chess bag and sent them back home to the car. So now I'm left with the opportunity to use the V2 butters again for a bit on a plain old vinyl board. grin.png

I´m not sure if you can find exactly the same, but something similar should be available, f.ex.: this analysis set or even this

Hey, @lotsoblots, where'd you get that vinyl?! No notation, super-slim border? That's sharp!

The board itself is probably a cheapo from like 15 years ago from Chess House. I just cut off the notation today with scissors, lol! I think it makes sense as a quick play board since people switch colors between games but don't rotate the board and then my brain won't get over the fact that the notation is wrong. wink.png

I want to say I got the idea from @Bananamoon, but if I'm mistaken I apologize to the original innovator!

Can't take any credits 4 the board. The Idea was from @Zagryan -  https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/common-issue-when-staying-at-a-hotel?page=2#comment-49583246
