Software and webware have their place. Books will never be dead! :)
Software for Tactics

As you may know from my comments on this forum, I seem to have problems knowing exactly how to use CT-Art3. (I downloaded the free demo, and someone here said it almost as complete as the CD.)
Well, I looked on Convecta's site, and they have a program like CT-Art only it's "Chess Tactics for Beginners." All the reviews sound like it is an easier, simpler version of CT-Art. I am not ashamed to admit that perhaps that would be a better option for me right now, and after I "digest" the interface and everything and get moving with the program, THEN maybe I'll be ready for CT-Art.
Since CT-Art was free, I don't mind spending $30 on the beginner's tactic CD as I think it will be a stepping stone to my enjoying CT-Art. I can tell CT-Art is really a good program - one that I hope to learn soon.
Any thoughts?
stwils

stwils, the tactics in CT-B are easier and simpler but the instructions and user-interface are the same as CT-ART. So if you like how CT-ART works but you want easier problems CT-B is a good choice. If you find the program or instructions confusing, then it's not and Chessimo/PCT is a better choice. I actually own all three of these programs.
books are dead! software is dead! webware is better! :)
seriously though, why not just use our Tactics Trainer and Chess Mentor? they are sooooooo much better than CD software.
That's funny. I just read an article by Richard Stallman (hallowed be his name) wherein he basically says that webware is the Devil.
