Solution for DGT board on chess.com

Sort:

All,

If you've been trying to use a DGT board with chess.com for the past couple of years, it has been frustrating at best.  Many of us gave up and only used DGT with Lichess.

I recently received an email from Millennium Chess advertising a new Chrome extension that works with their boards.  It is called Chessconect.  I checked it out, and it also has support for DGT!

https://computerchess.com/en/best-practice/Discover-Chessconnect-for-a-new-online-chess-experience

I just tried this with my DGT board and it worked great! I've only played two games against the bots (something that was not possible before on chess.com), and one live unrated game. But so far it has worked flawlessly!

This may be the solution DGT owners have been waiting for to use their boards on chess.com!

Hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

p.s. I have nothing to do with this Chrome extension - just a happy user so far

Thanks, I have been looking at the smart boards. And this fixes one of the issues with the DGT boards.

But I am still leaning to the Chessnut Pro. As the DGT has no move indicator lights as an option.

Curious which DGT version you have? Chessconnect doesn't work with my USB mini version, however, I've ordered an upgrade kit for USB-C anyway, which should resolve the issue. More of a curiosity. Cheers

Hi - I have the DGT smartboard USB, Just got done playing 4 rated games and this is the best my DGT has ever worked with chess.com.

Yeah - I also have the Millennium Supreme 55 which has LEDs to show the move. I think it is a matter of preference, but I really like seeing the moves with the LEDs as opposed to listening to them and watching the computer screen. But, DGT and Millennium are both great options. I have no experience with Chessnut Pro.

Nevermind, I just realized you have the smartboard (which has USB-C), not the eboard/wood version happy.png My bad

Hello Guinnless,
I am delighted with your contribution. Has anything changed at chess.com? Apparently not, because it doesn't work for me with a BOT.
What have I done?
- Connected DGT Smartbord to PC via USB-C.
- Started LiveChess (board is recognized.)

- Using Edge.
- Beta program member!!!
- Start game online and in "Settings" DGT-Board switched on.
- Works fine!!!
- Then repeated the same procedure for BOT.
- No possibility to switch on the DGT board. (No switch available)
My question to you: What else have you done that I may not have considered.
Thank you very much for your support.

You do not use LiveChess with ChessConnect, and you also do not use the chess.com switch in board settings. ChessConnect is independent and works without LiveChess and also without any chess.com DGT board settings. That is the whole point of his plugin.

Very interested in Linux. I want to try with my Steam Deck which runs Linux. Let me know what you find. I will test too soon.

Solved: The DGT is a USB device an I changed the authority via CHMOD for this device. The board is onnected and I am able to play with a bot.

Nicely done elk. What was the path to the dgt usb device if you don’t mind me asking? When I get around to doing this, then I don’t have to hunt for it happy.png thanks

Hi androp,

hopefully it's helpful for you. The name of my device is ttyACM0.

My command: sudo chmod 777 /dev/ttyACM0 or sudo chmod o+rw /dev/ttyACM0

Please try it with the Name of your device. Have a nice weekend.

Guys, a specific thread on Chessconnect already exists here: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/chessconnect-a-chrome-extension-for-chessnut-air-and-chessnut-pro-smartboards

I would suggest we report into that original thread all the issues/comments we may have, since the Author of the extension is actively writing in such thread and can help everyone who's having issues/suggestions/comments.

Hi ChessElk. I'm trying to use my DGT board with my Steam Deck which runs linux. When I try to connect the board it says there are no serial devices found. I feel as though the DGT board is not recognized by linux. I'm curious, did you have to install linux DGT drivers to get this working, or was the USB device auto recognized at /dev/ttyACM0 ? When I run lsusb I do not see the DGT board listed as a USB device. Thank you

Hello androp,
I followed @agatti1970's suggestion in post #17 and moved my summarized post accordingly. You will find my answer there soon.

@androp

Where can I find this upgrade kit?

Thank you so much.
