BCE Boxwood/Ebonized Tournament set on Rechapados Ferrer Redwood board...
Some Board & Piece Combinations

For comparison, a Sheesham CB Dubrovnik on the same Walnut/Maple board. Some have commented it's the perfect match. To me, it's a great match, but not enough contrast.

To me, the Sheesham set looks better on a Black/Maple board, this one a customized Rechapados/Ferrer product. More contrast.

Another Soviet GM set on the Natural/Black board. To me, the way the board brings out the golden patina of the white pieces compensates for the lack of contrast with the black pieces.

Natural/Brown Lardy set on Drueke Walnut and Maple board. Not as much contrast as with black pieces, but more than with the Sheesham Dubrovnik depicted above.

Finally, the last post of Labor Day weekend, a Natural/Black Drueke Player's Choice plastic set on a Walnut/Maple Drueke board. A little more contrast than with the brown pieces.
I hope to post some more during the upcoming week.

My vote is for contrast.
I like off-white and green boards with black and white pieces.
With boxwood and ebony... just about anything not black and white is good.
Another thread begun by Rsava asked what boards would go best with his boxwood and ebony pieces. Here are a few different combinations I pulled off my photostream...
Boxwood and ebonized HOS Mechanics Institute set on HOS Rosewood/Sycamore/Mahogany frame board.
