Hi, does anyone know, if Squareoff Pro connects with chess.com via IOS and how ot's done? DGT seems to have problems. I cannot find a way to connect my iPad, because there is no "connected boards" option in chess.coms IOS-App.

Thanks Thomas

I've heard on this forum (https://hiarcs.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10737) that direct integration with the IOS chess.com app for the DGT Pegasus won't be available till March 2022. You can only connect via the DGT app for now. Android does not have this problem and the board is able to connect.

I ordered two SOP's from Square Off on 25th November, and are due to be delivered in the USA... I'm just trying to understand, how is it that others who've been ordering much later are able to get theirs within 3 - 4 days and we have to wait for a full month? What really constitutes a delay of that length of time once an order is placed?

Read my post #212, this is why.

If you email them they will answer you.  They have responded to my questions about why does it take so long for the computer to respond when it has one legal move.  They said "they are working on it" The slowness in response makes it virtually impossible for the computer not to lose time in a 5-minute game. It times out over and over.

But they will answer your question, seems to me they want to supply all their resellers before their own direct orders which is fine with me.

@Nicke1Plate - any update on your new toy?
Anything not as expected?

Play any games online with it?

I did have some time to play last night against the Squareoff AI and a human opponent on chess.com. Haven't tried lichess yet. I love the board and pieces. They are lightweight but feel good in the hand and have a really clean matte finish and look good. The board paired up with the app almost instantly.

One thing I noticed is that you do need to be careful with the movement of the pieces in order for the sensory recognition to work properly and not get confused. I only ran into this a couple of times myself but my wife was pretty careless with moving her pieces around, not keeping them in the center of the squares, knocking pieces over and captures and a couple of times the board just didn't register the moves and then started beeping and flashing a red light.

We tried using the undo function to get the board back to a known state And it's here where I feel the app needs some improvement to provide more information about what is wrong. The board will flash LEDs in an attempt to try and tell you what it wants but it isn't always clear. We had to abandon two games against the AI because we just couldn't figure out what to do. Another time, after a mis-registration mid game the board "seemed" to be happy with the setup and gave us the greenlight but it wouldn't accept any further moves and would start beeping and flashing again. Exiting the app and then restarting seemed to resolve that problem.

Also when you capture it works best to remove the piece you are capturing first and then move the attacking piece to that square. If you try and slide into the piece you are capturing or lift both off the board in quick succession it has issues with the move recognition.

None of these things are deal breakers for me and are things which are probably fixable and can be improved upon with firmware updates. Most of my games went very smoothly It's an absolute joy to play the AI or another player somewhere else and not have to look at the screen or press down to register your moves. It feels completely natural and without distraction.

Oh one other thing is I couldn't find how to access the in app coach (which I need lol) who is supposed to be called Viktor. There is a picture of it on the box but I couldn't find it anywhere. I sent in a support chat via the in game app we'll see if I get a response.

I plan on giving it a good shakedown this weekend when I have more time and will report back.

@Nicke1Plate thanks for the honest review, it gives me hope that my purchase was no blooper at all. I can see it's a matter of one getting accustomed to the little adjustments in piece movements (as you've highlighted) in order for one to enjoy error free games. I'm sure the appropriate firmware updates will definitely refine the board.... Can't wait to receive mine.

We anxiously await your feedback after the weekend shakedown.

Does anybody know how Square Off is shipping their Pro boards (ie UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc)? My order from them just updated today to "shipped" but I do not see any tracking information yet. Very excited to start playing once it gets here!

@GopherMD, curious about the same. I was about to go cancel my order from them when I saw it was changed to "Shipped" but no other info.

Just received this 11 minutes ago.

UPS preliminary arriving on 12/22.  Whoohooo

If you want:

Give me a couple of days to set it up and then send me a challenge to play an unrated game so we both can get familiar with this.  So maybe after 12/26/21 sometime.

Remember it is the label that was created. Usually, they pick up packages the next day so it will probably start moving Friday 12/17, my guess.

It had so much demand that the longer you waited the more expensive it got. But if you buy 2 now you can get that cost down even further 209+125 2nd unit = $167  Not bad if you know someone who wants to buy one.  I bought mine for $199 but they had the free carrying case which they said was a $70 value but I see they are selling that for about 1/2 price at their site which is about the right price for it.

I got that price by declining the $15.99 protection plan that was offered at the time.  My order receipt states that I got the plan anyway.  I posted about this earlier in this thread.

Believe me, if this is a great product no one will remember what they paid for it. If it has so many bugs and they do not get resolved then there will be a bitter taste in one's mouth and you will remember exactly what you paid.

I accept there will be a few bugs ie: it takes so long to move even when there is one legal move that it losses on time in 5-minute games. That is a big bug but they did answer my email and told me they are working on that.  To me, that should be a priority bug to fix. If they fix it by February 1st, 2022 I will be happy.

How it works I have no idea. Do they send fixes (firmware or other) to the e-board or to your phone/iPad?

My first board that I ordered hit Jacksonville an hour ago.

Should be at my door tomorrow afternoon.

Excellent.

Now to go track down my second one.

with the reported  problems and shortcomings of the square off pro and dgt pegasus it would be wise to wait for a period of time before spending hundreds of dollars.

Do you have another site that is inundated with "problems and shortcomings" of the SOP?

I do not see enough here, some of which are in the app which I do not see, nor on the other site to warrant not ordering the SOP. I also do not see it on Reddit - in fact the SOP comments on Reddit are generally positive.

The small number of issues I see here in no way tell me I should be waiting.

Rsava I made my comments concerning square off pro based upon reading that it takes time for the moves to register on the board. Personally that is a problem for me because I would use the board for fast time control games and it would offer my opponents an unacceptable advantage. BUT  that is not say you or others would be upset by that.

Well so far their business practice is questionnable. They claim they have boards in stock on their website, they charge your credit card yet they dont ship anything. Ordered mine begining of December still no tracking number provided and all they could tell me is they might ship it by the 19th of December. Are they using the money to play it on the stock market?
