Glad to hear they have arrived and you like them
Swedish Competition Chess Pieces
I do like them but, they do not have a fantastic finish like most sets do. The set is very playable IMO. My set came in 8 days so, you & Ken should have yours soon. The pieces are turned better than I thought they would be for a basic chess set. The Knights are very plain too but, look OK to me.
I know this might sound silly, but I am knew to chess.com and I can't figure out how I can create a new thread/topic in this forum. How do I start a new topic?
In the upper right corner of the page you will see a green bar with the words, "Post New Forum Topic" in it.
Click on that and you can begin a new topic or thread.
There must be a problem (because I use google translate perhaps?) because there is no green bar at the top right corner (there is a 'search forums' box and a 'jumpt to forum category' box).
Do I need to be a paid member (even on the lowest form of membership) in order to start new topics? Otherwise I just don't understand - I have checked on two computers and across internet explorer and chrome - none have this green toolbar!!
Here are some pics of a set that is 40-50 years old. The white knights aren't exactly the same height...

And here are the knights from a second set (the rest of the pieces look exactly the same).

I have seen other variations of the knight as well on these older sets, some prettier than others!
Thanks for the pics Mazkor.! The white Kings cross looks like my Black Kings cross & my white King has a Jaques type cross. No big deal really but, I do find it strange the Kings would have different crosses. A Swedish thing maybe.? What company in Sweden makes the pieces.? The pieces are turned finer than I thought they would be especially the Queen.
I have a feeling I have seen crosses where the corners of the flat square disc that makes the cross have been cut out instead cuts in the middle. Is that how your cross looks like?
Next time I go to my club and have some extra time on my hands, I'll try to take some photos of a bunch of different variations of the pieces. I guess they have been buying this kind of sets over a long time.
By the way, there is also a more traditionally "Staunton" model of the Swedish competition pieces. They probably weren't as popular as I have only seen them once at a thrift shop.

that would be excellent to see pics like that.

Kenardi was kind enough to let me start a new thread. Either Ken or someone else can do pics once they get the chess pieces. The pieces came in a Tyvek envelope & were in a clear plastic bag inside. The pieces look best on a 50mm board which is our 2 inch board. The pieces are maple & slightly shiney but, not overly shiny IMO. The black pieces are all uniform in color. The white pieces range from honey color to a lighter shade. After playing 2 Blitz games with my son the unfelted/unweighted pieces appear really stable. Its the kind of set you can just throw in a pouch & take off for the Chess Club or a friends house without any worry. I love the Bishops with no stupid cuts just like the Dubrovnik set. The pawns are rock solid & stable. The black King measures 3 1/8 inches tall & has a different cross than the white King which is 3 1/4 inches tall. I have no idea if this is normal or not until we hear from one of our Swedish friends.? For 29 USD shipped its a good deal. I added up their postage costs which came to 12.38 USD. So the cost of the set only came to 16.62 USD. Both Kings bases measure 1 1/4 inches across. The set might be playable on a 2 1/4 board.
