Which tactics do you know? If you know the five basic tactics then its just a matter of combining them. All of the advanced tactics are just the six basic tactics, just a bit more complicated as it centers around your knowledge of pawn structure and positional play. You take the concept of overloading an undefended piece and combining it with a pinned piece, that threatens a fork check if pinned piece is captured.
Thiswastaken from a gamewhere i am showing my opponnet the concept of combination attacks in sequential moves. Every move involves a double threat, where each threat is a different tactic.Tactics
I know all about basic tactics. I have read and re-read Winning Chess Tactics by Yasser Seirawan, so I think I have it all down pat. Are you saying that in order to use them in an attack, I must force the particular situation that lets these tactics take place? Otherwise, I don't see how I'll ever use them if my opponent sees what I'm doing.

I stronger opponnent will see tactics, and will defend accordingly. It will come down to who can maintain the tension of the position without breaking the tension. Its not about executing tactics its about maintaining the threat of the tactics. With a strong player its about creating weakness in the position that can be exploited in the endgame. With a weaker player its about setting up positions that are full of traps. In the case of this game, my opponnent is not as knowledgeoble of combination tactics or pawn structures.
It sounds like you are looking for attacking ideas and themes. Openings and pawn structures with ideas at attacking particular squares. This is more strategy, but from what I have read form your post, that is what I am getting that you are looking for. I have a couple books on the subject... "Excelling at Technical Chess" (subtitled: Learn to identify and exploit small advantages) by Jacob Aagaard. Another is "Chess Strategy for the Tournament Player" by GM Lev Alburt and GM Sam Palatnik. Both were alright. Also, if you are looking for overall strategies of openings... if you get on youtube, there are a lot of vloggers who go through openings, and the ideas that are behind each move.
Do you guys know a good book on tactical play in general? I have a thorough knowledge of basic tactics and the double attack, but I am looking to improve my attacking skills. I certainly don't need books at the beginner level, and I would like the book to be updated and the attacking ideas sound. If you have any ideas, please post them here.
