The Botvinnik-Flohr II Soviet Set Addiction
You guys have made me a junkie!
Lokahi, you mean a "chess junkie" or better yet, a "Soviet chess junkie"
Awesome Mike !! You've got the Knights dancing again
Thanks Ron, your right, the Knights and "dancing days" with Led Zeppelin are here again!
A stunning specimen. At roughly 1000 grams, I'd say this was an actual tournament set. You can tell it was used and not refinished by the subtle wear on some of the collars and protruding edges. Can you show us a picture or two of the felts? Were all of the weights properly aligned? I had to grind a couple of mine down a bit to let them sit flat.

Thanks Chuck, There were no protuberances with the piece weights.
Very nice, they look used & original but in great shape.
Thanks Chuck, and thanks for getting me hooked on the Bovinnik-Flohr II sets. You are inspiration to Soviet set collectors.

Aw, shucks. You're very welcome.
Do you know what size chessboard was paired with these pieces when they were used in tournaments? I already own a board with 50mm (2”) squares however my pieces with that board are much smaller as my king is just a 3 1/4” in height. There is lots of useful information out there about the pieces that were used in these championships but little about the boards, you seem like the man to help me out.
