The Making of Noj Chess Sets

FYI, Noj Instagram is https://www.instagram.com/noj_chess/
Beautiful set, and it is so great to have this insight of their production process.
Thanks for sharing.
And here is the final batch of pictures from the finish stages of production of this first run of Noj Dubrovnik Minceta sets:

Oh man!
I had to back out of my order because I had an unexpected (and huge) vet bill but I'm eagerly waiting for the next run... Gregor says it should be ready by the end of June. I might lose my mind between now and then!

I just ordered the NOJ Red Stained Tal set, with upgraded Knights.....I will say that Gregor comes off as a very pleasant fellow! No doubt,I'll be thrilled with the set.

I'm uncomfortable with this thread. It's pretty obvious an advertisement. You have probably got a free set in return for this. You should disclose such things.
Not in my case! I'm simply happy to finally be able to get an NOJ set and ownership comes off as extremely fine folks.

I wonder if it is just the felt that holds the weight in place. It doesn't look like there was any glue on the weight or in the hole for it.

There's glue on the weight in the first photo of post #83. You can see the white glue on the edge. The little yellow cup has glue in it, so it looks like he dips the weight and places it in the piece.

This is not any kind of advertisement.
I am an eye doctor and am not in this business at all except as a consumer.
I paid full price for this set before posting the pictures.
I got Gregor to take and send me these pictures as I thought it would be interesting to see how these sets are produced. And I think it turned out great.
I look forward to you never buying any of these sets, as you are obviously a negative and pessimistic kind of person. Please continue playing with your cheap and poor quality sets.

Gregor sent the pics to me as well - I think it's something he did for all the orders on the initial run. Chances are he's proud of this set and wanted to show off the hard work they put into each and every one!

Congratulations to all of the batch #1 owners. Looking forward to all of the pics this week or next!
After watching the videos and seeing the pictures of their manufacturing process, I think Noj is deserving of their price.
@Eyechess Just curious... what is your USCF over-the-board rating?

fAwesome thread. Thank you.
@Nausea-Sartre is also among the people who did not like this awesome music. Sad!
Anyone looking at other hobby related sites can easily find threads like this one, where folks are enthusiastic about specific products(be it guitars, audio equip. etc) and certain manufacturers chime in on occasion....I'm still trying to figure out where this particular thread looks anything more than an enthusiastic series of posts about a quality manufacturer, who obviously takes pride in his work.

Thanks Ron for the great reporting done here :). I have to say when I see these pictures I feel extra proud of the work Noj's also done for me in my 2 sets. Those boxes ready to be shipped look a bit magical to me you know, because in my mind I equate them with the feeling of wonder that I had when I first received and started to unpack my sets. You will love your sets I'm sure. Give us a small review here when you get them please. I'm also kind of curious to see how these compare to the Dubrovnik 2 in your eyes.

I agree. I can't wait for Ron to give us a side-by-side comparison with the D2.
No, I'm sorry. I had mentioned "elsewhere" (as I cannot afford NOJ AND I live in India).
Indian craftsmen make wonderful sets for much less then Noj. Nothing against Noj , I know the labor and artistic craftsmanship that goes into making a set but I cant see spending $500.00 on a repro set. Just my opinion.
Understood.
I don't consider the new Dubrovnik Minceta as a reproduction but rather a design that's inspired by the original Dubrovnik design. Plus, being a Game of Thrones fan, it's kinda neat to know that the Minceta tower, as well as other locations in Dubrovnik, were used in the TV series.
