Just received word from Kate that the set I ordered quite a time ago will be sent tomorrow or the next... I can hardly wait!  I've been lusting after the pictures you guys have posted and waiting for her to notify me.  My wait is almost over.  But I must wait until they get here to decide if I need a new board. wink.png

My grandson is going to be SO excited when he sees it...

Keep us posted. I am curious on how is long is turnaround time from the moment you ordered until you get your set. Mine took about 7 weeks. I wonder if the turnaround time is longer or shorter now.  The tracking Kate gave to me is not too accurate. It arrived sooner than the tracking says.

That set is really gorgeous. The queens, rooks, knights, and pawns are my favourites. You're lucky you have a grandson that is interested in chess. I can't get my son to get interested in chess.

I ordered the set a few days ago.Kate told me it will not be until Sept/Oct when she will let me know it's ready.I have absolutely no problem with that at all.

Obviously and deservedly so,this set is very desirable,so I'm not at all surprised it's taking a bit longer to produce.......I have to give a huge shout out to Jorge for letting me on about it! A super great guy all 'round!!

Btw,my adorable 5 year old grand son is killing me in chess! I've tried to teach him the correct way to play, but at his age he pretty much uses a combination of checkers and chess. He makes up his own rules and is destroying me continuously.....Ha! -happy.png

Wow! So October will be the soonest. That's three months. What will happen is Kate will notify you that your set is done, then she'll ask you if you still want the set (do I really even answer that question Kate). You pay her then it ships for another three weeks. Ukraine post is not that fast.

I think five years old is one of the most magical age for kids. Lucky you, you are part of that magic.

Thanks Lawrence! Nope....You don't have to answer that question...Ha.

Btw,Jorge is QTO Qlevel3 on this site,in case you did not know....he deserves a round of applause for all his contributions,as well as Goodnightmike and Chuck.....I'm sure I left out some good folks.

I am by no means any kind of chess set expert, but I know what's really nice and this EraRetro TAL set is up there.....It will make a good book end, along with my Official Staunton  1849 Lacquered Antique Limited Edition  set that I got last Christmas season, with all my C.B. Soviet sets in between.

In my own limited experience and simple opinion, this set, along with the O.S. set and the "crazy gorgeous" C.B. 1940's Soviet Club Set are a "must"!

The "little guy" already has his eye on my chess sets....Ha! -happy.png

I believe I ordered my set in April.  Was pleasantly surprised by the notification it was ready.  And as if that wasn't good news enough, NOJ sent me an email this morning telling me the 1950 set I ordered was ready now too (ordered at the same time).

The grandson is only 5 1/2 and has been taking weekly lessons all this year.  It will be nice when his little brother gets going on it too, but that may be a year off.  magictwanger they're a hoot at that age aren't they?  I haven't gotten to play with him yet, but he shows great interest in my sets if I have one out.  With the 3 year old close in the same room though, there just isn't time to try to play.

I gave my little 5 year old grandson a set as well as all my CB rejected pieces....He loves "Knights"!

They are beyond adorable!! Tiring though,as I have to work out at the gym(4-5 days a week) just to keep up.....There's no such thing as sitting on the couch with this kid......It's on the floor,"or else"!-happy.png

I have just received my order. They are marvelous, just as seen in the photos of mike but felted in red colour.

It is a pleasure to play with them. Great design, (I specialy like the knight that have a nice soviet desing. IMHO more suitable in soviet style than other variations of this Tal pieces) and great finishing by Kate and his husband.

Congratulations, the long wait is over.

Could you show some photos of your new set on one of your boards to appreciate your latest acquisition, thanks. Great pickup BTW.

I should have my set in about one month.According from my day old message from Kate......Era Retro, aside from producing some amazing looking sets, are very responsive to prospective customers and seem to be real professionals.......I'd normally say I can't wait, but I have quite a few nice sets and a good amount of chess study to get under my belt,so I'm OK with however long it takes.

My only concern is getting another "worthy" box/coffer.....Hope you enjoy your set.-happy.png

I don't know if would be able to find a coffer for this set. The king is about 5 inches.

magictwanger

Thanks....Actually I knew that.I have my eye on a good box, which I've bought for my 1849 CB Staunton set......Classy box, with felt liner and can probably withstand a hurricane. Btw,sorry for the poor grammar in my last post.....It should have read "according to my day old message".....That's what happens when you're in a rush,as well as just having an eye exam, with dilated pupils(argh)....Ha.

As request of Qlevel3, here is a photo of the pieces in a bud rosebud board. As commented, the desing is the same.null

Impressive! Thank you sir, a great combination for you new set of chessmen. It will make playing your matches that much more enjoyable when you play with a set that is pleasing to the eye for both players.

It's very beautiful. It goes well with that lacquered padauk (?) board.

Fer8799

right linl, padauk, or bud rosebud or even named by HoS as a marketing strategy blood rosebud

Hi

I wonder if the guys who have this set can comment on how they have found it to play. Is it too big for playing use? Is it just nice to look at? Are there boards out there large enough?

Fer8799

For me they are fine to play, of course not for blitz.
