Superb, he hasn't missed yet, and every set has been perfect. That is a record no one can come close to. I can't tell you all the cracked or chipped pieces I received from so called "top" dealers. They do a crappy job in quality control or not at all which I suspect. CArl has been spot on every time. Congrats Mike on your addition, a beautifully carved set.

Thanks Mike, you are so right! Nothing can be more disconcerting then to open you set and find chipped pieces, rosewood or sheesham wood pieces that don't match and other piece flaws. But I also have to commend Carl on the secure packing of my set and a box with trays having fitted slots for the pieces.
I got my set today, too. I second everything Mike said in the post above. Carl took all of the critiques he received on the 1849 set and applied the advice to the 1851. This set is indeed magnificent. Did you get the box, too, Mike? I didn't... just a little too rich for my blood. The set is excellent value, though.
Just the set Robert, I'm a senior ciizen on a fixed income. I love the box and maybe down the road I can work it into my budget

ditto
Thats an awsome set. The Knights are fantastic looking. Thanks for posting the pics.!
Your welcome Frank. Happy collecting!
goodknightmike, I was just taking a look at your set again since the original post. Are you sure that's a repro? It looks gorgeous. I'd love to have that on my board. But then again, I'd need a board to do it justice. Really nice set up.
Woah! And where did you get that chess table!?
Check my post: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/post-your-chess-tables
I found this beauty in an antique furniture store in Baltimore around 10 years ago. I don't think the table is an antique but its got some age to it. There is no maker's mark on the table.

Are you talking about the set in this post or another forum?
This one right here. That's how good it is. Looks like some of those others you post; just in better shape.

I agree Carl, Vik & CB did a good job with their 1851 set. The Knights are very well done and quite impressive.
Received The Official Staunton Chess Company's "1851 Reproduction Staunton Antiqued Chessmen today and I have to tell you I was elated by the magnificence of this gorgeous set. Carl's website pictures convinced me to buy the set.

Now about the set. Without a doubt, this is one of the best, if not the best Jaques replica set I have seen to date. But I think I would have to share the honors with Carl's 1849 Staunton Reproduction Chessmen. The antiqued boxwood and ebonized finishes are a sight to behold. The antiqued finish was consistent on all the pieces giving one the impression that the pieces are vintage. The ebonished pieces were extremely well done and it would be hard for one to tell the difference with ebony pieces. Kings measure 4.4" in height. The 34 piece set comes with extra Queens. Pieces are heavily weighted with lead and base bottoms are covered with thick green baize. The pieces are quite impressive and finely turned. And how about those exquistie hand carved Knights? All I can say is unbelievable! Without question, the best replica Jaques Knights I have ever seen. This set is highly recommended and will not dissapoint even the most discerning collector. I have included many pictures for your perusal. Some of the pictures are shown on my chess table with 2.5" squares.
