why is free coaching nigh impossible to find?

I have tried YT vids to help me improve but they don’t help, I try seeing if there are coaches that are available, all require payment, why can’t knowledge be accessible to all?

Because...

welp imagine you're the coach. you are looking for students and have two options.

a) teach people chess for free

b) teach people chess and earn money

I think we both know the logical answer there!

Problem is though there are ppl like me who struggle at 300s and can’t get up the ladder, maybe there is a gatekeeping issue as well where info is withheld? I don’t know how to find someone that is willing to teach me.

Sorry but I think in order to access someone's hard-earned expertise on their own time you need to pay up

I thought chess isn’t supposed to be P2W it’s F2P?

Also I am confident there are some actually righteous people out there who want to give free advice so beginners like me won’t feel shame to actually give this game a try

Most people don’t want to invest their time and knowledge if they don’t get something back, so they may as well get paid. Some people do help for free, but it’s pretty rare.

That being said, I give free chess advice to lots of people, but I am too busy to offer specific training programs or consistent scheduling. That said, we can play unrated chess sometime if you want advice more tailored to you.

Try a library. Or the free lessons on this and other websites. Or an OTB club.

lol no one is gatekeeping chess information from 300s. If anything, there’s way too much information available. People can easily get overwhelmed today. There’s chess material via books, articles, blog posts, opening courses, videos etc. The bigger problem is getting quality advice. There’s a lot of terrible chess advice out there and also advice that’s generic or won’t apply to everyone.

Sure I’m ok with that, but you would have to ask me first if I’m ok with it right at a moment that you would be able to also play.

It’s up to you. Perhaps another time then, but no guarantee I’d be available then. It’s important to feel motivated when you play, so yeah, try again another time. I have the opposite problem. Someone could wake me up in the middle of the night, but if they say they want to play chess, then I’m game! I’ll get some coffee :D
