I own every ChessMate set except the Box. I bought them over a period of time.
The quality is excellent. Both the TravelMate Deluxe and TravelMate Pro use the same pieces.
I carry the Pro in my bag, everywhere I go. It has a smaller footprint and the pieces work very well on it.
The Deluxe goes with me when I have a bit more room on a table.
You can’t go wrong with either one.
I think that the fold spacing is way too big. I would suggest getting a folding PVC vinyl board from wholesale chess.

This is the set I have to go along with this board.

Here is the bag I have to fit the board, pieces, and clock.

There is a large pouch split in 2 on the inside. Take an Xato knife and cut the seam. Once that is done. You can place the folding PVC vinyl board inside that huge pouch.
Even though this is a full tournament size option. I think that for the money you will spend on that travel set. Might as well go bigger.
It does but for a travel set $150 is outrageous. That set that was posted from houseofchess.com seems like a nice travel option. However 2.5" is too small of a set for my liking. 3 to 3 1/4 inches is the smallest I would go for a travel set.
Well, I don’t think it necessary to try to have people accept what I like.
When I bought my sets they were not as expensive. I also own some of those wood, cheaper portable sets. These ChessMate sets are a lot nicer in quality and certainly worth more.
No one is saying you should buy any particular set. The OP asked if anyone knew about this particular set. I own it and responded. You apparently do not have any experience or knowledge on this set. So why do you feel it necessary to push your off topic opinion on the guy?
I agree with that. We all have different tastes. I express my opinions on price. I believe that opinions based upon price is free game and not off topic Eyechess. That is why I express different options based upon prices. Sorry if you think that I was pushing off topic opinions.
The proportions of the TravelMate sets is what I want. I just wanted to see if there’s more affordable options with the same dimensions.
I also own that same set from Wholesale Chess.
I carry the ChessMate set because it works a lot better. It takes up a lot less room in my bag. The pieces are not crowded on the squares as with the above mentioned, all wood set.
Understand that I have had the need for a smaller footprint analysis set for use in eye exam rooms, between patients, for a high number of years.
Some sets look good in the pictures on the internet, that's true. But many of those sets don't work as well in actual use.
If you want a different set than the ChessMate one, The Chess House sells a milled leather board and magnetic set. Yeah, it is not cheap like these Indian ones, but it is less expensive than the ChessMate version. I like the pieces from the ChessMate version a lot better and actually bought an extra set from David and have that with the Chess House milled board.
Actually, I really like the looks of that set Haverumwilltravel pictures. I bet that is a really nice setup.
What is the size of that board and set?
Closer, but the pieces still look squished compared to the TravelMate
Is this one better and closer to what you are wanting?

What’s your general opinion on TravelMate boards?
https://thinket.com/collections/chessmate-pocket-travel-chess-sets/products/the-travelmate-deluxe
I like that the pieces don’t appear to be dwarfed, they have the same proportions of a regular tournament set.
just smaller
doss anyone else make travel sets like this?
