PERFECT!!!! Pieces look great!!!!
Really like the white/Ivory pieces.
Shelby, the white looks fantastic. Maybe you offer up both if it doesn't cost to much to produce? Something about the old cream that brings back memories from the 90's. However the white looks very assertive IMHO! Also just ordered so can't wait
YES WHITE! IVORY WHITE THAT IS!! I really like the ivory white if you decide to make the set available in cream and ivory white can I request to you now to get one of each in my order? I have 2 pre-paid Ultimate sets ordered. One of each would be perfect! Thanks Mr. Lohrman.
Shelby - The set looks good. However, I generally prefer the cream/natural pieces. Can you post photos of the cream pieces for comparison? Side by side with the white pieces would be helpful for making a decision....
Black and white all the way !! BTW I LOVE the matte black finish as it is a lot easier on the eyes when studying . Order is in can't wait
Thank you Shelby. I have already pre-paid for a set on your website. If I have a choice I suspect I would probably go for the cream/natural pieces.
I'll take it and when the ivory whites are available I'll take 2 sets of those Ultimates as well. Thank you for the update Mr. Lohrman.
Shelby - showing a piece with a pale yellow hue next to a reference color with a more saturated, deeper yellow hue (here the PMS color swatch) does not give an accurate rendition of the color of the piece. The only way to accurately (visually) judge a color (here, of the piece) is to contrast it next to a pure white color reference - for example, the white squares of the board in your posts #190-192.
Also....as I posted in your other thread on the topic....
This business of showing the pieces against a PMS color swatch is confusing the issue. What does PMS color swatch (which has a yellow hue, at least in the photos posted) have to do with the color of the White (cream/natural) pieces..???
Russ,
To keep everyone happy, I took another picture. You can see on a white background, here is an old rook on the PMS 127 color chip
Does this make people happy?
I posted this on the other related thread as well...
Thank you Shelby. Contrasting with a pure white reference background provides a more accurate depiction of the color of the piece. I'll be happy if the color of the new cream/natural pieces is the same.
However, I still don't know what the point of including the PMS color swatch is. Unless it's just to show that the color of the piece is not the same as the swatch...

Thank you Shelby. That provides a more accurate depiction of the color of the pieces. I'll be happy if the color of the new cream/natural pieces is exactly the same.

Russ, Everyone was worried that the set went from Cream to Golden Yellow. I just wanted to show people that the color the pieces are being done in is pretty darn close to what everyone had before
Have a great weekend!
Shelby
Shelby - thank you for all your efforts to make all of us happy. It is appreciated. And why you have such a loyal following...!
The swatch and new pieces do look to match which would imply they are more yellow vs. old piece color. You'll also dealing with different material reflectivities. The best comparison would be a side by side of old and new pieces with a white background.

Exactly!
I played with this super solid plastic chess set for many years. It is triple weighted with 4” king and very classy.
No need to derail this thread about the discontinuation of a specific tournament and club favorite set and the efforts to bring it back into production for the last three years.
I think I saw the Howard Staunton chess set somewhere. I will find out and provide you with the link. The best thing about these stunning chess sets are their proportion and classic look. They are also made from very high quality plastic. Problem with most other plastic chess sets on the market is they are made in China from junk plastic with loose weight, gaping seams and lots of scuffs. I will post some photos of the common faults in Chinese-made plastic sets.
@stauntonmaster -
You might want to start a new forum thread for your topic. This thread is specifically about the new and improved reissue of Shelby Lorhman's "Ultimate Chess Set"....which he plans to be shipping soon...

Shelby, I vote for white...the white looks great !
