It's a great set. Get it!
Ultimate Chess Set - Triple weighted
The original was an amazing set. IMO no other plastic set comes close. Thanks for sharing this, hope he gets enough backers.

I am glad Shelby is doing this, If all the people who wanted this set pony up on kickstater it will be a reality.

Amazes me when we had a thread about this many people were looking for the set. When it shows up on eBay it goes for more money than is being asked for each set by Shelby. And yet this thread is so quiet. Trying to keep this on top as many said this was the best plastic set of all time.

glad it's on Kickstarter. I would pledge, except Shelby is only shipping to the US... :(
It's a shame Frank that our Postal System has made shipping to Canada almost cost prohibitive in the last couple years. There was a time when I had my small internet business I used to ship to many Canadian customers for a reasonable amount of money. This does not hold true anymore and many times the shipping is more than the product.
Should be some way to handle shipping between Canada & USA as reasonable as in country shipping since many times miles traveled is less!!

I have to admit I would be dubious of a Kickstarter campaign where the entrepreneur cannot center his avatar photo correctly ;)...

But anyone in the chess equipment world knows ACE and knows of Shelby especially after his V-Tek chess clock. He is the one who also makes the top of the line viynl roll up chess boards that chess players buy off the vendors.
So I hope this project gets off the ground and many of us that can support him.
DISCLOSURE...I have no ties with Shelby, never got a special discount from him, and we do not personally know each other other than a couple small orders I placed with him in the past.
I now have one of these sets in plastic, the version already made and not this new one. However, I do plan on buying one of these when they are available. I recently bought the Ultimate in Rosewood from Shelby's father, Ron of The Rochester Chess Center.
Both the plastic and the Rosewood versions are excellent. I used the plastic Ultimate for a recent G/5, d/5 event we had at our club a couple of weeks ago. And a few of my opponents commented on how nice the set was.
Just this past Monday evening, I used the Rosewood Ultimate, which arrived the previous Thursday, for a G/30. i/30 event we had at our club. And once again this set brought on some very positive comments.
In response to the one fellow above about the triple weighting not being necessary, I must say that this set is really, really nice and nicely weighted and balanced. So the triple weighting in this set works very well.
And to the other fellow, it looks to me that his avatar picture is all about the shirt and not the person. So it is centered.
I also look forward to this set being produced once again.

I just pledged, one more chess set, im sick hope this kickstarter picks up.
Same feelings Aries. We had a thread a while back and there were many people who wanted this Ultimate Set so badly. Where are all these people now? Let's keep this thread near the top to get more exposure. Would be a shame if this project fell through.
Shelby why not advertise on your web site? I didn't see it listed there unless I missed it.

The Ultimate was (is) a fine plastic set. However, I've never considered it the very best plastic set available. I've experienced loose weights more than once with Ultimate sets. I like the set but don't just love it - my opinion only.
What was great about the Ultimate was the price - if you purchased from ACE! At $14.50 for a single set (and less if you bought multiple sets) it was a "best buy" in plastic sets. At that price nothing could touch it!

The loose weights were common but it happens in many heavy plastic sets if you let them fall on the floor, it's fixable if you are willing. But I hope this new production will use better glue. What I liked about this set is that the design was made for plastic and not a copy of a traditional wooden set, the balance and weight distribution were the best i've seen making it great for blitz. The fat pawn was also a favorite of mine.

Maybe Shelby can shed some light on the new process and assure all that the weights will not come loose.
wholesalechess.com sells a set that weighs almost 4 pounds, more than the triple weight. I had one, thought it was great until I started lugging it around in a case with a clock and heavy bath-mat roll up board, it was too much of a good thing.
This was my first and only set. I recently passed it to my nephew, because I couldn't find a new set anywhere. Honestly, IMO nothing ever compared to the Ultimate set. It's the only set I will buy, so let's hope they start making them again.
I just saw this fine chess set,

Does anybody have any experience with this nice chess set?
