Rosewood does have a tight grain pattern. Wenge does as well. Wenge is known as chocolate ebony or tiger ebony.

Rosewood has many varieties and it depends on the characteristics of the blank used.
Each set will be different. My guess, the shop is trying to show how the rosewood piece can vary from piece to piece. You can always ask the shop, they may even provide an image of a set they pick based on your request, never know until you ask.
Thank you Mr. Lohrman for the explanation of the type of wood in the ultimate chess rosewood set shown on your father's website. Say do you have any updates on the Ultimate chess plastic set, pictures possible day/month they will be available. I salivating just waiting to hear any new word or news on this set. I want at least 3 of them for my own personal collection. Thank you Sir...regards...Jorge.
I am sitting on the edge of my seat and waiting for the release. The aluminum would be a cool set to add to a collection. I was wondering, how long would it take to make this set out of wood? I'm sure someone already asked but I didn't see the thread or a response.
Love it! The anticipation grows stronger with every update you provide. This ultimate plastic chessmen set will be a very cool set to take with me to my VA appointments, coffee shops and Washington Square Park tables here in NYC. Thanks Mr. Lohrman! Looking forward to the launch sometime @ September. Regards...Jorge.
Commenting so that I can notifications on this perfect tournament set. I wish I had gotten one in the 90s when they were all over the place. Now that they are not available, I want one more than ever. Appreciate the effort that is going into this! However, I am sure with the demand, it will eventually be profitable.
Impressive Mr. Lohrman! Will the Aluminum set be coming in at just over 3.5 lbs. as well? I'd like to buy some sets of that aluminum model along with of course the plastic version once they hit the warehouse floor for purchase. Great pictures thank you for the update Sir.
Thank you for the update. Patiently awaiting the first batch to buy from your waitlist which I'm currently on and will enjoy this set finally when they are produced and sold from your website. I'll be investing in at least 3 sets. Thanks Mr. Lohrman.
Hi Shelby, I just wrote you a note at your company's website about having trouble getting on the waiting list. I think I sorted that out, problem with google chrome on my computer. Anyway, I can't tell you how excited I am to hear this set (which I used for years and years until I recently lost a couple pawns) will be reissued. Look forward to updates on the timeline!
I can surely live with 45.6 ounces Mr. Lohrman unless there is a another method of adding weight to make the 3.25 lbs. you wish to achieve. I'm good either way. Just anxiously awaiting first run on the warehouse floor and to be notified for sale from your "Waitlist".
It must be the exposure but the wood for that ultimate rosewood set on chesset.com seem more like zebra wood rather than rosewood. Is rosewood that varied in grain appearance that it looks similar to zebra wood? I think I'll wait for the plastic version of the ultimate chess sets. I have quite a few wood sets for now but that can always change if something happens to fancy my yen to purchase more wood sets but in a uniformed grain type wood.
