Ultimate chess set

You know at this point I don't know what color it's going to be. I'm starting to think he's messing with us.

Eyechess

Have you guys played Chess or at least seen both Ultimate versions in real life?

the problem is looking at pictures on the internet.  They’re not always true to the eye.
I own both.  The butter color isn’t that bad.  The original color looks more natural as a set.

I like my sets a bit on the smaller size.  This is why I prefer the original.  And I probably will prefer it even over the newer version, no matter how the color comes out.

LondonDungeon

Then quit complaining and buy something else. You guys have been on this thread days, weeks, months, even years crying about this set. It's that simple really. If a set does not meet your standards buy one that does.

Whatever you guys are trying to accomplish here obviously isn't working. So dry your crocodile tears and move on. Seriously. It's the best thing for all involved.

LondonDungeon

Really??? So says the troll. I bought the set. Enjoy using it. Love the color.

You bought it. Just admitted sending it back. How is that loving it? Doesnt take a very intelligent person to figure out y'all are only whining for attention.

LondonDungeon

Sorry but you as you so hope you didn't now have my un divided attention.

You appreciated this set so much that you sent it back. Sending something away in no terms means loving it.

There's nothing wrong with the color or quality now.

Well in real life the chess set looks like pee pee in the toilet. I returned it to chess house. I don’t play over the board chess very often, but when I do I prefer my pieces are not any shade of yellow.

Unfortunately then, you are in the minority, wanting only White in the pieces.

I have talked with at least 4 of the big sellers of plastic sets.  In only the House of Staunton have I not talked with the owner.  And there I spoke with the manager.  Oh yes, I also heard this from Frank Camarrata when he owned HoS, so that makes 5.

They all said that the most preferred color for White plastic pieces has that tinge of yellow.  You can call it Cream, Natural, or whatever but the pure white color is not as popular.

Look at all the highly praised plastic sets and the color of the White pieces.  Every one of them is not that pure white color at all.

LondonDungeon

You guys do realize the last two versions of the Ultimate chess pieces were yellow.

Of cause we realize it, that is why they are selling so slowly, that is why everyone is waiting for the next version. A widely popular plastic chess set was made in a widely unpopular color. For every one person who liked it there were 4 who could tolerate it, at 5 who hated it.

I got a set and i thought i could get used to it. I could not. Under bright lights the set burns florescent urine color that clashes with almost all possible chess board choices. The pieces are great, the color is horrid.

@ShelbyLohrman Sort of like this cream color?

Yes, mike,  that color.

And I know...People will complain about all the colors I might choose...LOL!  I'm used to it.

Those who can...do.  Those who cannot usually like to complain!

Shelby

I'm in if you're using that color then.

Lol there's no way 600 yellow sets are going to sell.  Myself and others pointed this out and were ignored when the first yellow prototype photos were posted.  Whole thread is a waste of time.

LondonDungeon

Your name says it all. @mikecantreed1 speaks for itself.

How do you know those sets haven't been bought or spoken for? He's moving on the new set after the Coronavirus outbreak, so something has happened.

It has become painfully obvious that it doesn't take intelligence to post in the Chess.com forums.

LondonDungeon

Can't wait til the new set. I hope they look like the OG set. The OG set was yellowish too. Bwahahahahaha!!!

Well, I have a yellow set. I think of it as French Vanilla, but I don’t lick it too often. Regardless, it plays as well as any other set I own. I’ll likely replace it when the new one comes out and donate it to the local club.

@ShelbyLohrman You know one thing that would be cool. Find a way to get the boxes individually number (ie. 0001 of 2000) and auction the #1 set off for charity to support scholastic chess.

Mike,

That would be a VERY cool thing!  I could auction off the sample set they send over and put it in a laser engraved box!

See, I love the ideas that flow out of the forums!

Thanks

That would be even better than set 1. It would be set #0. And for scholastic chess.... Someone is gonna go big.

RFID chips have been used in high-end casino chips for many a year now. WYNN used them and other casinos too and they can tell "upstairs" the amount you are betting when you place your bet.

Also for security purposes, each one has a unique serial number and they can also tell if the chip is authentic when cashing out. No fraud.

This is going to be a long wait. They just postponed the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix and that was set to run in April.

Can we pre-order the white sets?

mikecantreed1,

I appreciate the feedback, really!  Proving people wrong is not only fun, but profitable.  You say that there is NO WAY that 600 of the yellow sets are going to sell.

So what you are saying is that I have sold less than 600 since I got them?  Hate to burst your bubble, but there were 1145 sold in 2018 and 723 sold in 2019.  I have one distributor lined up to take 600 next month.

The rest will be gone by September.

You were saying?????  I still love you anyways!

36% decline in sales year over year is telling.  My theory is that people ordered thinking the set would be identical to the original, saw the color, and shelved them.  A true reissue would've been prevalent across chess clubs and new customers would've ordered after seeing them in person.  As is people see the bright yellow, move on with their days, and you're left holding inventory for 2 years.

Eyechess

You two guys take the cake.

Could it be that the market is limited and after a certain amount of numbers the sales volumes ebb naturally for a new Chess product?  The answer is, yes.

It is just a plastic chess set.  You tell him that he should devote all his attention, full time to the people in China getting the set the way you want it.  Good luck with that.
