@ShelbyLohrman you want to work on something. Come out with some better chess related hats. Most of them out now are either kiddie style or khaki casual dad hats.

It is what it is. Until the new color arrives. Play some games with your yellow UCP set and enjoy the game of chess. Don't act like Veronica in Willy Wonka. Remember what happened to her? LOL!

Oh, I read just fine.
What is he supposed to do if he only focuses on that plastic set until it is produced?

Do you not understand that there is a large startup cost with a plastic set, getting the molds made?  Yes every manufacturer makes the buyer pay the cost of the molds.  And changing manufacturers means the mold cost again.

Also, the problem was the manufacturer not making the color asked for, and that is by a color sample number that is universal.

Shelby has fixed this problem be demanding a sample before they begin production foe approval.  Fixing that problem will handle that.

Otherwise that manufacturer did a good job.  Note there are no problems with the seams and joining as there is with the HoS Collector set, for instance.

A new manufacturer might present new problems with the product.

Perhaps you should stop making unrealistic suggestions.

I never said I was "happy" with anything.  I guess you need to improve your reading skills.

Let's see, unrealistic:

You wrote, "I think you should devote all your attention to the current chess set run to make sure it gets manufactured correctly and it’s not yellow."  All his attention on anything like this is an unrealistic expectation and suggestion.

No one disagrees there should be no loose weights.  That was not a suggestion of yours.

Better quality felting than last time borders and even steps into the realm of unrealistic.  The last felting was alright for a plastic set.  I spoke with Raphael, you know the owner of The Chess House, and he agrees with me on this.

Shelby, has explained how he is going to get the color fixed.  What is it about what he wrote that makes you give the unrealistic suggestion he gives it all his attention until it comes out perfect?

Eyechess

There is no reason to think that everything Shelby told us is not true regarding the making of this set.  I have known and bought a lot for my Chess clubs, both scholastic and regular, as well as for me from Shelby for a long time, well over 9 years.

I have talked with him about product he had developed and then had made.  This includes, but is not limited to, 3 different Chess bags with one being in a nice leather, the V-Tek 300 Chess clock, at least 5 different types and colors of roll up chess boards, and at least 2 solid boards.  Oh yes, and also I have worked with him when he was designing and having produced at least 3 Chess sets.

Shelby is good at bringing Chess stuff to market that is really good and purchased by many in both scholastics and regular chess.

The ONLY real problem is the color of this one Chess set came out more yellow than expected.  Note that we have seen at least one or two other sets, produced elsewhere, with the White pieces being just as yellow and one was even more yellow.

Everything else has been grand and great from Shelby.

This company that he is working with has produced a nice set, except their color choice, at production, was more yellow than anyone on this side of the ocean expected.  Now Shelby is getting it fixed.  It certainly does not need even most of his attention, let alone all of it as you so unrealistically suggest.

@Snooper420 Then move on and go get your quality chess set. You insist that this set is disgusting to look at and physically horrible. If no set on the current chess market meets your standard. By all means dig the pennies out of the couch, collect tin cans and sell your food stamps two for one. Save it all up and wow us with what you think is the finest and last chess set we will ever buy.

Ooh, ooh, I want my set have the Knights say, “Ni!”, whenever they are picked up.  And I certainly don’t want my fighting pieces to be yellow.  Tsk, tsk, what cowards they will be...

I don't care what color Mr Ed is. Just fix the loose weights. 😎

Shelby, I hesitate to raise the question of more colours after your sterling efforts to resurrect the Ultimate.

I nursed a Maori chess club in Gisborne for many years and their sets were the original Ultimates from Taiwan. The founder, Genesis Potini, featured in a film, "Dark Horse" 2014. Red is a significant colour for the Maori and, as a child, I remember also growing up with my father's red and white set.

My ideal would be a signal red and ivory white set.

Given the exchanges here, I doubt that'll happen. But maybe some entrepreneur would be interested? What's happened to Taiwan? Has it gone to sleep?

Hey Shelby, Thanks for keeping us posted!  I got one set of the re-release from last year for my nephew, weight is great and no problems with loose weights, but man they're really yellow!

I'd definitely be interested in a wood set of these, so I'll keep an eye on this thread.  Hope you're doing well.

The only wood Ultimate version available is from The Chess House, https://www.chesshouse.com/products/3-5-8-ultimate-style-wooden-chess-pieces-babul

Right now this is the only one they have in stock.

Eyechess

I was wrong in saying the Chess House version is the only one available. Chess Bazaar also has a wood Ultimate for sale.

That is what we are doing sir!  They will be insert weighted from now on in the White and Black version when they hit our docks.  I am trying to do a screen grab from the video they sent me, but I am way to technologically impaired in that case!

We are doing them in Metal.  They should be in around the same time.  The set will weigh in at over 9lbs and they are plated, not painted.  The set will retail in the $250 range.  Here are some pics:

If our new India guy ever gets back to us...we will have them in Wood too in the future.  That probably will not be till September though.

thanks

Wish you the best of luck in selling those metal sets. Hope it works out for you. Just too much bling for me so I will pass on the metal version. Looking forward to seeing the wooden version.

This whole effort is so distracted.  Everyone wants a re-release of the original set.  A heavy duty cream colored plastic version.  No one wants a $1 million dollar metal version or a bright neon yellow or red plastic version. A wood version is fine but focus on the primary demand, which is the original.

Give us the original!

Hey Mike,

Appreciate the feedback.  We cannot make the original size without messing with it some because we cannot use the lead weights anymore. That is why we bumped it up to the 3.75" size compared to the 3 5/8" size.

As for the original color...with the response when I brought out the last set...too many people came out in favor of the white instead of the original color.  Just playing the odds here.  It will be the most durable set out there with the insert weighting.  So much so, I have thought about putting in a guarantee in on it.

With the metal and wood versions...why not try to tap the market for a well regarded set...as long as I get them made in the highest quality I can.

thanks

Ill be snapping up a set as soon as you get them!
