Ultimate chess set

That V1 color is niiiice. After the butter yellow disaster I can totally understand Shelby/ACE going with off-white. You can't screw up off-white. I can just imagine him on the phone with the factory. "NO YELLOW. Just simple off-white this time. NO F-n YELLOW. DO YOU HEAR ME? Just off-white is fine! NOT ONE DROP OF YELLOW."

KnightsForkCafe

@Pawnerai Yellow can be a good color if you have the right shade of Yellow. I think that a darker golden yellow or mustard yellow would be good. I agree that the butter yellow was a disaster but I did get one of those sets and I have a board or 2 that actually helps with the bright butter yellow.

All Purpose Zipper bags from Walmart are the best non chess related bags for storing sets. As you can see in the photo. It will easily fit the new UCP 3.0 set no problem. I prefer these bags over draw string bags sold by chess vendors.

@KnightsForkCafe What are the LxW measurements for that zipper bag? It fits the entire Ultimate set with plenty of room to spare? Looking for a bag to fit either 3.75 or 4 inch kings. The 9.5x7.5 padded zipper pouches I have from ChessHouse are fine for 4 inch kings when you split the colors (2 bags). Which I'm fine with. I prefer the wide openings of zippered pouches over drawstring.

@RussBell Thanks but those listings don't indicate the size of the zipper bag that KightsForkCafe is using to comfortably hold the Ultimate set. It must be at least 9x12 or so to fit the whole set. Walmart has the worst product descriptions.

I can't account for the adverts which do vs which don't provide dimensions.  However some of those on Amazon do.

Which is why I asked KnightsForkCafe for the measurements of his zipper bag. It's ok, really. No need to respond further.

KnightsForkCafe

@Pawnerai Not sure on the measurements but I have been able to find all sorts of tournament sized sets in these bags. 4 inch sets are pushing the limits of its capacity.

KnightsForkCafe

The biggest set I was able to fit into these bags. Is the popular one that has an extremely pointy Queen's crown. It goes by different names but we all know what set it is when we are talking about the Queen's crown being extremely pointy and sharp.

MrGalang

I dig those bags. Those were the ones we used in lieu of a pencil case back in the day.

I also like re-purposing old stuff. When I went away to the army, a bunch of folks gifted me shaving kits. I still have the bags and found that one shaving bag is just the right size for a tournament set(roll-up board and pieces), and clock. If I didn't have a few of these laying around, I'd probably try the inexpensive vinyl bags that were suggested.

I that board pictured is a thin mousepad version. I wouldn't fold up a vinyl board like that due to the annoying crease that would surely result.

After doing a ton of research and expecting I might purchase the "butter" version of the Ultimate chess pieces, can someone tell me:

1.  Weight of each piece

2.  Dimensions (height and base) of the king

3.  Dimensions (base, and preferably also the height) of the pawns?

You do know that only the latest version of the Ultimate pieces has the new weighting system where the weights will not come loose. It was a great step to the most perfect plastic set.  I do not have the butter color set so I can not give you any numbers on it.

I am very aware of the new version recently available or about to be available (version 3?) that it is is different in size, color, and method of weighting than version 2 (butter) or version 1 (original).  As I said, I was interested in version 2 (butter).

Am I correct that the new version 3 is larger than version 2 (butter) which is larger than original version 1?  It appears that way from the pictures I've seen.

Eyechess

The new version has been available since the middle of December, and it still is.

The Version 2 and Version 3 sets are the same size as each other.

Both are larger than the Version 1 set.

There is a picture comparison of the latest 2 versions here: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/ultimate-chess-pieces?page=27

Version 1 (original)

Version 2 (butter, larger/taller)

Version 3 (same size as Version 2, more traditional color, better installation of weights)

Yes.

Here is the dimension table (as measured) for my Ultimate Butterball set on a 2.25" board.

Any hope this set will be available in continental Europe?

And for all of you that busted me up on the Butter color...they are now selling one for one against the Off-white.  I think that since people know the Butter is never going to be made again, it is more palatable for people because of "FOMO".

What's that old 80-90's song..."You don't know what you've got till it's gone!"  LOL

You have to admit...the color grows on you!

To be fair, you have them listed at a pretty darn good price right now too.
